The Bay Area Glass Institue (BAGI) along with the folks at the Palo Alto Art Center, are holding their 14th annual Great Glass Pumpkin Patch exhibit and sale this weekend (the pumpkins go on exhibit Sept. 29, but the sale takes place Oct. 3 & 4, 10am - 5pm. http://www.greatglasspumpkinpatch.com/ If you've never attended the Pumpkin Patch exhibit, and you are in the Bay Area, it's well worth the visit just to take a gander at all of that beautiful glass! There is no admission fee, and you can take pics to your hearts contentment. Here are some pics I snapped a few years ago (please pardon the gushy cutsieness, us Ugly fanatics are like that ) http://forum.uglydolls.com/viewtopic.ph ... 3fbef#p925
Those glass pumpkins are pretty neat- saw them last year at Stanford Mall and the Pumpkin Festival @ Half Moon Bay. Are they a local specialty? I've never seen anything like them elsewhere.
Love this event. We got a small white glass pumpkin a few years ago that quickly became a favorite part of this holiday.
That looks awesome! I'd love to go, but I've already committed to attending Hardly Strictly Bluegrass this weekend.
Akum6n, the glass pumpkins aren't a local specialty, but they are very popular in the Bay Area, since they were "made famous" by the artists from Bay Area Glass Institute (BAGI). Since they are all handmade, they are considered "art glass". I think I've seen them in catalogs in various East Coast galleries as well. They make an awesome sight when they are sitting in the sun, sparkling away, by the hundreds! Uberboy, I really want to go partying with you and the gang, but I'm still nursing a sick Kittee . I was so looking forward to seeing you in your bear hat! Slack, you should try to attend with your family. I'm sure you'll enjoy it, just watch for holes burning through your pocket-book!
Very cool Uberboy! Your Booska looks like he's really enjoying himself! Sorry to have missed you, but we didn't get to the Pumpkin Patch until 4pm on Saturday. I recognized some of the pumpkins in your photos. You must have been there before me, as I did not see anyone photographing with a Booska in tow . I was a little disappointed, as the event seemed smaller this year. There used to be a central buffet table with huge ornate pumpkins, but they weren't there this year. Also missing were some of the large glass shrooms. I only saw the shroom in Uberboy's pic (the colors were off for a shroom, so I don't think it will sell), and some smaller ones. Seems like it was a bit low key. Although it was still a LOT of fun to see everyone out enjoying themselves, and a patches of wonderful beautific glass! Chuckanucka and Hot Dog 'n Bun Bear also enjoyed themselves. We walked away with a glass gourd and 3 pumpkins. The gourd and one of the pumpkins were made in the "Tiffany style", iridescent glass with some really cool colors and swirls. I'll try to take some pics soon--it's been so windy lately and it's hard to race home at the end of the day before it gets dark (too soon too!). ...ergh! I'll have to hold on Kaiju spending for awhile
