Saw that man. That statue is crazy They had all four or five Batmans I believe from different artists including Miller's and Jim Lee. The Pope statue stands out so much because of his style. My comic addiction consists of going to Amok time which is a large toy dealer and now has started producing large vynil monsters:O 22.5" tall
I saw that Creature, I need it. They have a Frankenstein Monster coming too, but I don't like it as much.
It's also just the size of some that really surprises me. It's not like collecting 5 inch figures. It's up there with the large releases that Kozik was producing. They would just seem to overpower a room or collection.
yeah, reasonably priced too considering size and paint app. It was like $110 or something cheap like that. The franky is acutally a remake of an old toy that's grail for alot of the universal collectors. Creature's my fav though.
I blow ridiculous amounts of money on it, but I also have no dependents and otherwise lead a very frugal life and still manage to save with a 401k etc. You're already seeing some stuff languish on the auction sites cause no one is buying certain product. And a year or two of a recession probably won't help things.
If you want to really get off the crazy kaiju rollercoaster ride of going broke and having to eat ramen noodles 24-7, just buy something for yourself that you actually need like new clothes, kicks, shoes, good food, something for the apt, whatever. Or better yet something for someone you care about (g/f etc). Suddenly you realize where your priorities are or should be. Get off the board and go out of your house, take a bike ride or a walk. Suddenly it dawns on you that that auction you were desperately going to bid on, isn't really that important and you can do without. Works for me.
Nahh I like walking/ riding my bike. It's good for you. You don't spend money on gas/repairs/insurance like with a car. Better for the environment. And best of all I don't road rage. I have serious road rage issues (even as a passenger in a car). Rhino come on- it keeps ya trim My collection ain't shit compared with some people here, seriously. Thanks for the compliment though. Chris
LOL not really kaiju but collecting has messed with my traveling. could've visited our family in texas and taken a few more vegas trips but passed for vinyl + art
Walking biking will be useful when gas is $7/10 dollars a gallon in 2-3 years so people should know how to do that know or start learning. Years ago, I used to obsess over missed auctions or what not. These days, I really don't care as there is so much going on.
anybody here read any good comics? (kidding) but what i mean is, anybody here a fan of anything that's not superhero stuff? lynda barry's new book is due any day, can't wait! just ordered gary panter's new volume and as far as DC goes, i did just shell out for the third volume of the Ultimate Sandman. but what about allison bechdel's amazing recent graphic novel or the MOME series from Fantagraphics? anyone like their comics steeped in reality? just curious
I need to finish the last volume in Neil Gaiman's The Sandman series. The series is great for those that have never read it before.
I've seen this in passing at the library. It looks really interesting. I'll definitely have to pick it up. playdohpunk: Does manga count? I just read "I's", and I'm finally finishing up Battle Royale. Both kick ass.
haha! i just finished Volume 2 of the Ultimate Battle Royale. The release schedule says that they won't have that all bound together until next year tho i think volume 3 is coming out in a month or so. enjoying it but i think i liked the book best of all. what is I's?
An awesome book that I highly recommend is Girls by the Luna Brothers. I believe it is now released in one massive hardcover edition for relatively cheap. It's a pretty crazy book. First time I ever saw a giant alien sperm in a corn field cut a man in half like a whip! The artwork and storytelling are both excellent, and the hardcover is 24 issues (the entire series) in one book that retails at $100 ($70 @ Amazon.com).
For that artsy, indie stuff: Put The Book Back On The Shelf: A Belle and Sebastian Anthology rules too! Mainly because I'm a big Belle & Sebastian fan, it's a collection of short strips based on songs by B&S from artists and writers who are fans of B&S
oh wow! i love belle and sebastian and that sounds pretty interesting. ever see that talking heads one, i think it was callled "what the songs look like?" it wasn't just comics artists tho, it had people like william wegman, jean michelle basquait, and otherr fine artists
talking heads kick ass, i'll have to look into this. another book i want to shine some light on is Arsenic Lullaby. That stuff is hilarious, if you find stuff that is not funny funny.
