True, but then you have to spend time MAKING the food - for parents who bust their asses all day (and sometimes all night) at their job(s), sometimes it's just not an option to spend an hour making dinner. But often people are just lazy and it's easier to go through the drive-thru.
I'm just saying I understand why so many poor people are unhealthy.

It takes about 2 minutes to put various sprouts, greens and fruit together to make a meal though.

I understand the whole poor eat worse socioeconomic aspect of it, but when it comes down to it, you can eat healthy, fast, and cheap. If you have enough money to figure out to sue the fast food chains, you have enough time and money to have fed your children better. And screw the whole "its what they want to eat argument." If I got what I wanted to eat for every meal I'd weigh 500 lbs have mercury poisoning.

--NT--^ that and it doesn't help if you grew up poor and your parents seldom cooked--or didn't cook well. Fast Food is the answer and you know your kids will eat it. bad eating habits just set up for more bad eating habits.

I have something of a love-hate relationship with it. sometimes I just want a big greasy burger, but plenty of times I just wish there was something relatively quick but also more flavorful and nutritious. I eat the stuff, but sometimes I wish I lived in Taiwan or something. All my old friends tell me that "eating" is their favorite thing to do at home (because the food kicks ass), and yet, all of them are pretty slim. They only blow up after they lived here for a little while off our "food".

You can, but for most people they don't know how to. They don't know where to get cheap protein - that's why the dollar menu is so great...cheap meat. Also, throwing together a bunch of veggies/fruits/nuts doesn't fill you up like a couple dollar burgers/fries. People like to feel full after they've eaten.
Example: my lunch today is rice, tofu & veggies. I eat it because it's cheap and healthy. But I already know I'm going to be hungry after I've eaten it. I'd much rather get a couple burgers - but that would cost more, and be far less healthy...but immediately after eating I would feel a lot better (more full). So you've got people that don't know HOW to make cheap/healthy food, and people that want to be full after a meal. And as Vombie stated, people that grew up on burgers who have learned to hate vegetables. It's a very hard cycle to break.

I don't think a lot of us here are forced to eat fast food because of our economic positions, but I can see how some would be.

I would really recommend watching Food inc to everyone, they should show it to kids in schools, the American food industry is fucking disgusting, in so many more ways than just fast food.

I understand that, I was raised soley on meat and pototates, hated veggies and never really had to eat them. However fast food was special and we didn't get it often, and my parents kicked our asses outside and made us run around and swim and be active and not just veg into giant masses of fat.

My lunch today consists of strawberries, blueberries, a mixed greens with various kinds of live sprouts some nuts and a soy protein shake.
I would totally love to just eat some burgers and feel full and not be active etc, but I know the consequences.

Corn is super fucked, as is everything.

There was a really sad scene in food inc, where this old guy who operates a seed sorting machine (hardly any of them exist anymore) so the farmers can save seeds is sued by monsanto for inciting farmers to break patent laws. Even farmers who don't subscribe to the whole round up ready seed bullshit are screwed because their crops are contaminated by neighboring farms, so no one can save seed without being held liable.

and this shit is happening everywhere, with corn in Mexico, with Cotton in india... they're creeping into Canada to fuck with the farmers. They pretty much run everything already and can do whatever they want, it's very scary and disgusting.

the soy yogurt i eat (i know, i feel like a hippie) has big ads on the top for food inc
which makes me kind of not want to see it
    but i will

it also had no farms, no food written on it really large for a while
    that was annoying
(and my parents and grandparents were farmers)
