I am sure you have all heard the rumors and some of them are even TRUE! Pop Soda & Fig-Lab are proud to announce The Many Many Many Mey Custom Dynamite Custom Show. Its coming up fast and its going to be a doozy! Many Mey (Mey or Me is Japanese for eye) is one of the characters from the Pop Soda pantheon and the arch-nemesis of the Pop Soda Liquid Superman. He has been featured in the Pop Soda comics and has been released as both a "finger puppet" figure and the larger sized soft vinyl version. We have always thought this character had huge crossover potential so we invited an array of artists from different genres including Kustom Kar Kulture Krowd as well as healthy dose of the usual suspects, gave them Glow-in the-dark blanks and asked them to go to town. On top of the painter/sculptors, we have also invited illustrators, fashion designers and even a video artist to contribute pieces to the show. There will T-shirts, blanks, and other swag for sale plus a special limited run of Many Meys by Mr. Paul Kaiju. If the entries so far are any indication this show is going be insane!!! The Many Many Many Mey Dymanite Custom will debut with a sneak peak at Superfestival 48 on January 11, which is first for them to have this kind of an exhibition as part of the show. Thanks for the support Art Storm! The Tokyo show will be at the 8-style gallery above the shop in Koenji on from Friday January 16 - Sunday January 18th. There will be a drink-up on Friday night after so everyone is invited! Thanks to 8-style for the space. (also a big up to Ken at One-Up for support as well) But wait.. there's more! The whole kit and kaboodle is headed to Brooklyn for a show at the new MISHKA space (store?) in Brooklyn to coincide with New York Comiccon during the first week in February. Watch this space for exact details. Of course their will be additional artists and more goodies available then. Thank you MISHKA!!! We're are hoping to hook up a west coast venue as well so - again - keep watching this space. After the world tour the Many Many Many Mey's will make a triumphant Homecoming top Osaka with a show in March. Many of the customs will be for sale as well - so for details on this - you got it - watch this space. For now I will leave you with a list of the initial roster of participating artists. I saw this yesterday and started to weep at the prospects of never seeing anything beyond photos. Great list of studios / customizers! This should be one awesome event
wow, and I just saw that it might be coming to NYC that would be beyond amazing! I'll have to talk with my contacts to confirm...
Awesome, awesome, awesome looking show! I know Portland isn't a big-market like NY/Tokyo - but you should look into getting Compound Gallery / Just Be Complex to display the show. They display a lot of Asian artists and sell, among other things, (crappy) vinyl toys. I would LOVE the chance to see these in person, and it'd be great to get something good into Compound for a change. If interested contact Katsu at Compound. http://www.compoundgallery.com/gallery/2009/01/01.php
the customs so far look ridiculous! would love a bay area stop... if you need a place to display, you can use my house
I haven't commented on the customs because they blew my mind and left me for dead (especially the "Mummy Mey"), and now that shirt. Will there possibly be any way to obtain these without attending..?
The art for this looks like the School House Rock style from the 70's. Cool concept and looking forward to seeing more of the customs.
man, this will be straight awesomeness all around! such a great list of artists involved! someone best post pictures of every custom on display at the show...
