OK, I've never been a huge Cannibal Corpse fan. I think they are OK, but find most of their output to be fairly generic and was offended when the mighty Napalm Death OPENED for them on tour last year (ugh!), but their new record "Kill" is amazing. I've not liked a CC record this much since "The Bleeding" came out 12 years ago. Crushing brutality that is formed into actual distinguishable songs this time. If you are at all into this sort of thing, it's worth checking out.
KIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!! Ahem, yes this record is mighty return to form for CC. Death metal needed a kick up the backside since Nile took everyone's attention and bored us to death.
Do they actually include the cover art this time or do you have to mail away for it again because it's too offensive?
That whole artwork business is crap. I got the censored Vile album by mistake and in the same order they sent the original Butchered At Birth CD. Which I think is much worse. Hey Chad, have you heard Ishan's new stuff? Its quite odd but i'm digging what i've heard so far.
I'm usually one for clearer vocals, but there are too many good bands with cookie monster vocals (Suffocation, Obituary, Hate Eternal, etc) to write off the whole style. And with some of the real brutal stuff, like Suffocation, it seems to sort of fit the music. But I do hate bands that aren't brutal Death Metal that use cookie monster vocals or who just grunt. There have been quite a few good Thrash records that were spoiled for me lately because they had singers that just grunted like cavemen (Demiricous comes to mind) Generally speaking, when it comes to agressive metal, I prefer Tom Araya style screaming, old school Hetfield sytle singing, or hardcore style vocals (think Ian MacKaye or Henry Rollins, as opposed to NYHC) to everything else. The cover just has the logo and "KILL" on it. The Vincent Locke artwork is inside. I don't think there are two different covers this time.
Maybe i will have to check the new CC out. I had wrote them off after The Bleeding and Chris Barnes left. After he left, they jsut weren't as good. Vile is pretty godd, but it seems like with each album after they got worse and worse. That new Ihsahn record is weird, but good. I will be seeing Emperor when they play here in July. Anyone heard the new Dissection album? It's good, but doesn't come close to Storm of the Lights Bane.
I write off all bands that use Cookie Monsters. (no offense to anyone) Now, if a vocalist has a variety with the Cookie Monster voice thrown in once in a while, that's okay. But, if just cookie monster vocals, no thank you. I've been wanting to hear the new Ihsahn CD but the publicist couldn't be bothered to send me one (another story altogether). I'll pick it up, sooner or later... Parka, your "quite odd" comment is exactly what I was hoping for.
the best thing that CC ever did.... the scene in ace ventura part 1 where jim carrey is trying to dance his way thru the crowd
