I am going to be in town for wedding next weekend and I need to figure out something to do on Friday and Sunday. Any suggestions
check out pizza luce'. its downtown somewhere, anyone you ask in town should know exactly where. one of my favorite pizza places anywhere.
Hmmm. Turn the world on with your smile? Take a nothing day, and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile?
You can stop by Robot Love, they might have some decent stuff. ROBOT LOVE 2648 Lyndale Ave South Minneapolis , MN 55408
You could rent a car and drive somewhere nice. I kid! I live in Minneapolis and if I weren't going to be out of town for my brother's bachelor party I'd offer to buy you and yours a drink. Pizza Luce is like 6 blocks from my house. Great pizza, although I'm liking Leaning Tower more these days. Minneapolis is hard for visitors. Everything is so spread out and in little pockets. Northeast has cool bars but no shopping. Uptown has some ok stuff but it's mostly an Urban Outfitters paradise. Robot Love is fine for the "expletive deleted" hunters and the staff are super nice folks but I think you wouldn't find anything you don't already have there. It's too bad Ox-Op closed otherwise you might have been able to catch a sweet gallery opening.
There's a pub called the Brit or something that I got dragged to by my cousin's then girlfriend. It has a bowls green on the roof and a huge gilt framed photo of the Queen Mum above the fire place. I felt bad saying that I'd never been in a pub like it back home.
Brits, I literally just had lunch there. My work is right across the street. It's nice, the lawn bowling is great but on the weekends it fills up quick so you'll want to get there around 6:00 and get your name on the list.
I got a Gama Go shirt from Robot Love last time I was in town I used to be there (technically in Minnetonka) every week for work, but I haven't been there steadily for about 6 months though.
The word I got was that Haze, the owner, wanted to start up his record label again and Ox-Op was too time consuming for him to do both. I heard another theory that he felt like he wasn't getting much love from the community for bringing in so much talent. God knows my girlfriend and I thought it was fantastic, getting to meet Soto and Baseman and Fairey just to name a few. And the prices on the actual art was sick cheap. I don't think anything Soto does now goes for $300...
Minneapolis has some good record stores. If you're looking for any vinyl check out Treehouse records on Lyndale a block or two north of Robot Love. Cheapo records on Lake St has a ton of used and new vinyl in the basement also. If punk music is your thing you could also check out Extreme Noise records which is also on Lake St. Enjoy your time here in Mpls.
