It is illegal to drink on the streets but you are doing it at your own risk so we don't feel the need to police people about it anymore. If a cop took notice he would probably arrest you on the spot.

 

Pogue's answer is what I thought. I think the only city in America it is legal to drink on the streets is NOLA - bottle, can, cup, daquiri, it doesn't make a difference.

 

I think it's ok in Vegas too.

 

Well I know you can't drink in public in Hawaii. I was alone on the beach, sipping a beer, watching the sunset and two 300lb. Samoan undercover cops descended on me and carted me off to jail. Not the way I had planned on ending my stay there.

 

nuts, next time i'll bring a paper bag with me.

Not that I'm proud of it, but there may still be remarkable 20 yr old court footage from a crude security cam of yours truly pushing a hospital gurney in a stolen doc's jacket w/ a criminal amount of beer in tow to the unfinished top floor wing of a hospital expansion to apparently watch the "sun rise". No one was impressed and it was very expensive.

I think it is technically only allowed if you are on the Strip itself, but I hear they are pretty laid back about enforcing it elsewhere in the city

in some parts of S.Carolina (hilton head at least) its legal to drink publicly along as the alcohol is in a cup. no bottles or cans.
