Before my time, but this thread made me think of this. Harvey Pekar mentions record auctions via mail in some strips of American Splendor. i couldn't even imagine doing this with stuff like ebay and YJA out there now. had any of you older crowd done this?
I used to do this all the time for records and toys and sometimes movie posters. that was nerve racking to say the least! but the times I won were awesome, having to wait for the winning mail or a phone call and being so stoked I got something, good times for sure. Toyshop and Goldmine used to be great, and the film monthly too I cant remember the name of, I used to get 35mm monster movies cheap sometimes, watching those on a big screen drunk on vodka and orange Tang, those were the days!!!!
