I go to this place Big Lou's and I always end up buying some old creature from the black lagoon or one of the tick toys ..they have a good bit of loose stuff there so I end up with all kinds of crap ..
i had almost completely stopped with the transformers stuff, until i found that sky lynx at the salvation army. old transformers and voltron/godaikin/shogun warriors stuff are still all up in my heart.
i still collect the one thing that got me into collecting in the first place when i was six years old.....DINOSAURS!! and man, you wouldn't begin to believe how many of these fuckers i have now, one day, a pic. i got to get their display space all cleaned up. JIMBO is almost kaiju xoco! he's almost dinosaur too! that's why i have one right between some anraku and the geborah. did you see the big brand new book coming out in may of his work? i can't wait!
i saw the vader and had to snag it. they are totally ripping off urban vinyl, but the vader rocks. and they're only $10
My collection is pretty meager in terms of western and eastern but I have to say my favorite pieces in my collection hands down is the 2 Tone Gorrillaz set by KR. Eastern or Western that sculpt and the color ways are fucking rad. The colorways actually helped me find my focus on my kaiju collection. There are personal/nostalgic reasons why they appeal to my aesthetic sense tho. I feel so free getting this off my chest!!!! ;P
all kinds. i have a folk art stegosaurus to those little kaiyodo replicas, the only thing is, i don't like cute dinosaurs, they have to look mean and look like they mean business! the smallest is probably those aforementioned at about an inch and the largest is about 3 feet long. my favorite of all time is the pleisiosaur, underwater dinosaurs rule!
Hmm... Spawn Toys, Muttpop (gotta love Tequila and the gang) and still have a large collection of those Bunny lookin' things that I just can't seem to part with. Also collect sporatically; dragons, rocks, carved boxes and dead things.
i collect toys from koa and flying fotress yeah its western but ive always loved there and andthere both kaiju fans so im sure theyd be happy with there display mates, koa even designed the header for the art toys secretbase set
hmmmm..... i still get the odd Gundam figure.... not really a toy closet thing, but still definitely love SIC Takumi Damashi series. so detailed....!
Your time will come when you realise how much they are worth and how much cool stuff you can buy with the proceeds!
Not really guilty pleasures... there's a world out there besides kaiju! But I still buy a ton of Playmobil and buy the occasional 1/6th figure here and there (you know... 12" figure with clothes... errr... dolls...) Medicom Vader and Boba Fett are two of my favorite figures But as for guilty pleasures... I love cute stuff. Come on, how can you resist these little guys (guess I don't have to tell where I stole these from):
last few months ago, picked up non kaiju were some carded simpsons figures, the beatles sgt peppers series, jim morrison fig, days gone die cast scale cars....and some star wars (but not to much these days)
rement! i'm addicted to those as well, but since there isn't a retailer near by, my collection is pretty meager. the star of my collection is the rement pucchi combini series — the stand-up cooler + food — brings back all the fond memories of tokyo late night onigiri trips. once in a while, with the right combination of risers, my toys have a tiny plastic feast i never thought about organizing them like that. fantastic! good to see there are more of us out there.
Yeah, looking forward to that! Heh, my Jimbo is standing between the green/purple Alien XAM and a bunch of glowies ... fits right in.
Cool... after you posted this, I was checking out sites with info on vintage/new dinosaur toys. Didn't realize there were so many. I have a huge collection of the old British Museum / Invicta plastic models from my childhood... been thinking about digging those up one day (no pun intended).
I also collect Chogokin, and just about any other kind of Japanese Toys. Here's a smattering: (Sorry about the 'visual spam', I'm bored at work)
