They probably saw S7 selling the individual previous ones for $60 each, and thought 5 X $60, plus a little to grow on. Makes you wonder if they are even worth the $60 each, but at least the ones S7 sold were individually bagged and tagged. Still beats the $100+ per figure that I paid for at least 2 previous ones! As more of these flood the market, I agree that the price will probably sag, but no one really knows.
Could be but no matter, they paid under 200 wholesale I'm sure. I also paid 100 plus for one of these dudes and regreted it every minute. The ones I sold here I took a 5 dollar hit on each (shipping) just to keep it fair on people. Anything above 235 for PLATOON1 is to much IMO.
SoS was selling the blue eyes, red, yellow and blue for $65 each a month ago which seems reasonable....
I just got my troop and am a little disappointed with the paint quality, fortunately I didn't spend SOS prices but still they are not inexpensive toys and should have a better paint app. I'll have to think twice about buying any more though I do want that cyborg ape head...
I actually dig that about these (I said this about another toy today also). The crued paint and bad joints are indicitive to the early 50's and 60's toys. Thats what makes me really like these and I did get rid of all my AZ's ecxept the black blue eye's and have both the painted head VX'z. I am waiting for the platoon set to show up. I reallized I only care for the black style troopers and I really like the Astro Z. heads on the collabs. Am I alone in this thinking?
Originally, upon opening my Platoon, I was a bit disappointed with the paint ap as well. Particularly on the teeth. But after holding them for a bit and yes, playing with them, I agree with Eloco. The slightly haphazard paint ap fits with the retro feel of these.
fuck the dogy paint jobs etc these toys are the coolest toys to come along in a very long time they are amazing i only have 9 but want more !!!!
As much as I like the troopers I've yet to go after some. When I saw the apehead version, I thought...now that's the one for me. Sounds like they might be a pretty limited release though. More info over at the Toy Karma blog.
besides forums, its a great way to keep up with upcoming releases and updates -shrug- personal blogs (the diary/journal type)... not so much.
so you guys think the shitty paint app was intentional? or you just found a way to cope with it? I just think they are poor quality toys.
I wouldnt say intentional but it just works for some reason. They just have that nostalgic feel because of these intentional/un-intentional minor flaws. I have already had a friend ask if these are from the 60's or 70's and I think that just proves the theory in question.
