I think the downfall of the slug line was distribution and stupid package sorting. They did a one small set at a time and so many people were excited about them but the first set was really screwed up. You had to buy the 12 pack coffin and several 3 packs to get all the figures. Stupidly 2 out of the 3 figures in the 3 pack were already in the 12 pack coffin so you were forced to buy two doubles to get the one extra figure. The real problem was the first 3 packs hardly came out anywhere(maybe 3 states)and each one had a figure you couldn't get any other way. So the second set came out nationwide as did the third set and the special xmas set. People loved them but you know how adult collectors are when they don't have a full set of something so the company behind the toys said they would re-release the first set to appease the customers. They never did. So the ebay prices for the rare figures that only came in the first set 3 packs(and only 1 per pack actually)went crazy. Most figures you could get for under a dollar but those 3 or 4 rare ones were selling for more then 50 bucks each. It really pissed off collectors. Lots of people refused to buy anymore figures until those first ones came out again. Didn't ever happen so places started putting them on clearance and Jakks Pacific pulled the plug on the entire line before they even finished the series.
^^^^ ...MAN i had no idea about any of that. Many thanks for all the S.L.U.G info! Damn damn interesting tale. And one other toy makers hopefully learn from. The Trash Pack are fairly easy to get whole sets of, IF you don't include the super rare ones ("Limited Editions") They are all individually numbered, and damn hard to come buy. I've never got one, and i have bought quite a few packs! Some are x/250, others x/500 and so on up to x/10,000 i think. So still a lot made to be honest! But damn rare compared to the what, millions/hundreds-of-thousands of them normally? ... they sell on Ebay for about 100 - 3,000 each! Putting even Nags to shame. Pic of one below: So it's pretty darn hard being a Trash Pack completist too! Anyone out there own any of the limited editions?
Unfortunately no, but you'd think I should have at least one with all the money I've spent on them! I've seen the prices of some of them on Ebay, and it's just insane. I mean, they are toys! (actual, marketed for kids toys, not like the 'big kids toys' this forum is about). Also, had no idea about the SLUG stuff either. I'm pretty sure the TRU by me still has some of the coffin sets on clearance. My kid has most of those too, I didn't realize even THOSE had rare ones. argh!
I actually showed my 6 year old your pictures and he got really excited, so it looks like this weekend we'll be staging some stuff.. I'll post them when we're done
This is GREAT!!! There's a bunch on there i've never seen, really would like the Ripley-esque character, thats just too bad ass! And glowing ones?? what is this sorcery???? May have to go raiding TRU tonight... There is someone on my Instagram feed that had painted a bunch of these up, they looked really good!
I never heard of the x-mas Slugs set. Sounds cool. Also that rare cat trashie is the one my son asked for on his Christmas list. I had no idea it was a special one so I go to ebay and think ok i'll spend a few dollars and get it for him and..................... I almost shit. It was like $250! Uh no sorry Santa doesn't have any more of those at his workshop.
Have seen the slugs and have been tempted to grab a pack just to open it but have never seen these thrash packs yet. Minis are just fun, the more the merrier

looks like someone else is cashing on the 'small, collectible rubber weird stuff' craze. Anyone seen these at Toys R Us?
^^^^ ...holy crap they are such a rip off of Trash Pack, packaging and all! Saying that as a fact, no moral judgement. I LOVE bootlegs and tributes. Funny how they are chucking in one of those classic-toys: the half-a-tennis-ball-bouncer, and calling it a "popping meteor"! Marketing Gold! On a personal level, after getting my Google on, i gotta say i am not much of a fan of the Crashlings at all due to just how simple + non-textural the sculpts are: ...dare i say they seem more KR, than kaiju. Others got thoughts?
There is a nice detailed review of those things on a website I really like that covers tons of small toy lines. http://www.littleweirdos.net/
Did you see this crazy set that came out recently? So much imagination for such a cheap price. http://jacks-attic.com/2014/05/28/zombie-disuko-smasher-bootleg-mini-figure-set-now-available/ Not advertising anything here. Seems they were very limited and sold out quick.
