I'll be visiting some friends and business partners who will be taking good care of me and showing me some sights. Are there any notable art or toy stores, or related venue suggestions from local brainers or others who have visited? Any suggestions or travel advice is greatly appreciated!

It’s a toy-store desert out here. Dunno Munich but Berlin has one spot where I’ve seen sofubi and it’s the owner’s.

other than that if you’re with locals you will have a good time. Germans are so random and their food is crap but boy do they know how to have fun. They probably already have a few quirky outings planned.

Munich is pricey so expect food to be as well, beer not so much.

I’ll ask friends and report with their insights.

Can't help with toy shop venues, although Munich is very metropolitan, so I'd be surprised if you couldn't locate a vintage/retro toy shop in the city via a Google search.

This came up on a quick search I did - looks like a lot of vintage tin-toys, etc: http://artoftoys.de/

In terms of non-toy related, if you can leave the city and have access to a car: https://www.neuschwanstein.de/

This is the castle Walt Disney modelled the Disney castle on and it has a fascinating history; circa an hour and 45-mins, by car, from Munich and is stunning. There was (haven't been back there in quite a few years), in the tiny town at the base of the castle, a shop that had hand made wooden toys, traditional 'smokers' and other interesting local arts. This too is worth a visit if you go to Neuschwanstein.

Awesome info and thank for the links! I have been using Duolingo for the past year and there was an entire section talking about how much tourists love Neushwanstein so that's been on my radar :D

My friend who is "hosting" me was skiing in the Alps a few weeks ago and sent me beautiful pics. I asked him if he was staying there and how far it was from his home. He replied that it was just a day trip, about 50 minutes away! :o He definitely has a vehicle so we will hopefully be taking some day trips.

We travel to my in-laws in Florida several times a year and it's generally a 13-15 hour drive depending on traffic. My flight to Germany will be quicker lol. It will be so nice to have so many awesome places just a short drive away.

    Thanks for the reply!
