i don't like space troopers i like the toys they are based on, but not them. oh and of course, much of touma's work is less than appealing. although the new mecha-kaiju thingies are okay.
Hmm neat idea. Now, this is strictly what I'm not really into, but its not to say there couldn't be an exception, or a change in mind later on... But this is could be called my list of popular things (here on Skullbrain) that I don't dig: Real Head fight figures- Its the Shorts. And the Bigaro head. The Chaos is cool, but the jean cutoffs have to go. Time for Mori to sculpt a new body or something. And some of the figures are just too abstract for me- Gatchigon? Organ Bat? Ginger-R? What the hell's going on with those figures? (And its weird, because I'm totally OK with Secret Base fight figures haveing shorts- they are my favorites) Rebel Inks- This I don't get at all. Way too Hip Hop looking for me, and too Western. Cronic- Like someone said, most of it looks like Howard the Duck. I don't like ducks, and I don't like duck Kaiju. Dempagon: Looks like crap to me. The Pushead Pirates by secret base- Eh, they don't do it for me like the skullwing, and I like pushead. Maybe once I paint one my mind will change. Madball Mantis by Secret Base, ad the Balzac head for their Balzac fight figs. I just don't like the headsculpts, and the mad mantis should have boxing gloves (one day I'll do a custom like that). I really don't like those new Bagman either with the madball mantis heads. Boogiemen by Cure- I love the Oni Mask, but not fond of the rest of the figure... Now, I've never owned or actually seen one in person, so my opinion could change, but I don't like the Tomato head or the proportions at all. Space Troopers- eh, if I wanted Mars Attacks I'd collect Mars Attacks stuff. Itokin Park- not that it's bad, some of it I like, just not enough to want to buy. It's a little too western and cutesy looking for me anymore. Hedorah- Its ok, but really all the different types? Its not that cool if you ask me. Anything over 8-9" tall... maybe if I had more space, but I don't, and anything larger then a standard M1go figure looks out of place in my meager collection. I'm sure that there are others, I'm not really into exohead or zollomen, I think the FInk Shit is kinda dumb looking (its the librarian reading glasses). Uhm, it really is easier to post what I do like, because there's less of what I like then what I don't. That being said, I'm totally open to having my mind changed on any of these figures. Send me some gifts to prove to me that they are cool! Or have me paint them.
I don't care for Madball style gore-toys. Things like SB's Mad Mantis. Even Pushead to a degree. Cure's Boogie Man. There's something about the gut on them that just looks...off. Flocked toys Bemons Cronic Unpainted, flesh coloured vinyl I also agree with the post earlier mentioning clothing on toys. I give SB more leeway, but RxH's cutoff shorts and RI's jeans and shoes aren't my thing.
i'm not into collecting fan customs (although I have a few I've done... or received in a swap). I will buy customs if it's from the artist who designed it because I see those as one-offs.... although a sutfin bop monster or a pushead rebel ink would be some exceptions.
-- Flocked. (doesn't age well....plus a 'snickbar' to keep free of dust) -- Clothing on toys. (that is, actual fabric) Only exception... Anrakus Drunkboy. (his loincloth is teeny-tiny, barely there anyway!)
I think we had a thread like this way back along with a "what are you into" thread to make up for all the "hate." I think the only "theme" in these figures I'm not into is unpainted black, flesh, gray, brown. Even painted versions of those are a tough sell, the paint better match up just right and knock it out, otherwise the overall "murky" look isn't for me (again, acceptions, Pushead.) Sure, there's tons of sculpts I can bash, but I'd rather not since I take this thread is meant to ask "What themes that spread through most of the figures and brands we collect do you not like, particularly ones that a lot of people seem to be into?" Not "What toys do you hate?"
Ha! How could I have forgotten the vest! I think I've blocked the vest out of my mind. The loincloth works for me. The vest, not so much.
I think it's a good thing that, except for the comments on standard-sized figures and Bemon, I pretty much agree with everyones dislikes! Which would seem to say that I don't like much of anything, but I feel there's still too much stuff that I like.
Like i said, it would have been easier to post my favorite stuff- Secret Base Fight Figures Rangeas Most Gargamel stuff is pretty awesome-tastic. Tim Biskup Rangeas Customs Sofubilife Jet Jaguar M1go Weird random monster Kaiju. (Wish I could afford more of it)
Some sculpts: Most giant lizards of any type (Godzilla included) Shikaruna Koubou Maity (Standard and Mini) Gargamel x Tim Biskup Dragamel Pushead Secret Base sculpts (Skullwing to a lesser degree though I don't own any, and I do love his art) Rebel Ink, Salvation Ink (I love Usugrow's art, not toys based on them) Itokin Park Some themes; Flocking ULTRA HYPER detail (X-Plus, CCP) Super-limited runs of toys that everyone wants Most 'hot new sculpt of the month's Most minis Sculpts getting 10,000 versions released within the first month Really cool paint applications that will never be put into production Some shit I love: Skulls, horns (I'd say 80%+ of my toys have one or both) Guts (vinyl or paper are cool) Gnarly, messy, chunky sculpts 12" Suits Fight figures Unpainted clear vinyl Unpainted black vinyl Toys with lots of different, bright colors (planning to be a shelf theme soon) Arm attachments / weapons that can be held Removable masks / helmets / gloves Clothing, if done right (Boogieman, Radd, Obake Dog, Zipface, etc.)
fight figures figures based on designs by "artists" unpainted figures anything retailing over $100-$150
