I have a chance to score the 5 year later companion and am wondering what the board deems a fair price so I know if the dude is trying to bend me over.

    Any help appreciated,
    Matt

what color? i'd say somewhere in the neighborhood of $1K is not unreasonable. not sure if him doing gallery shows will affect the prices

Ok, so GID only comes in the blue, or green colorway.
It is white so its def not GID.
It looks sweet but I dont want to over pay since I dont own one single Kaws piece and this is not a must have. It just speaks to me for what ever reason.

well if it's a blue glow... that should be well below 1K (should also be your most affordable one)

    That's GID blue(or green)

Contrary to popular belief its not really anymore available than any other Kaws5YL release. 500 were made of every colorway. For awhile these were available for almost under retail for some stupid reason (the idea that they weren't "rare"). Even more stupid was that I didn't buy any even though I saw some people buying them up 3-4 at a time.

    Ok, thanks BI.
I need to get a round about pricing for the blue and green but I will ask the seller which color it is.

that is a blue GID, not a green.

whether or not they have the same run size, the blue seems turns up more often (and I heard the green glows alot better... although i've had neither - so probably better to ask someone here that has both. maybe alex is right). i just know that not too long ago you could pick the blue up in the aftermarket for $200 or so, but never the green (people will pay more for the green, that's a fact)

just look at the completed ebay auctions

$600 seems to be the going price on the GIDs.
You really won't find them for THAT much cheaper.

I'm willing to drop the dough I just need a definitive price range so I know if I'm paying top dollar, under retail, or flipper prices. I know theres one guy here who buys all kinds of kaws stuff, wish I could remember who he is.

I think it was the other way around, and I'm pretty sure they have the same run size but for some reason the blue is less sought after/desired. Wasn't there a ton of "leaner" blues? Perhaps that explains it.

TT had this GID version for a very long time.

They priced it around 700 bucks last year.

Jay, thank you sir. So its a safe buy is what I'm thinking at this point. I dont mind paying abit over retail (in kaws toys that translates into a couple hundred) as long as its not out right gouging. Thanks everyone, I'm going to move on it.

these were approaching $1000 at the "peak" last year so $600 seems about right in todays market. they may drop more if the economy keeps sucking ass and people need to sell but it's always a crapshoot in this hobby.

Where did you guys hear that the blue and green had the same run number? (not saying you're wrong, just curious)

What happened was that there was a big build up to the sale of the green, complete with a very cool animated video on kawsone. Then he only had a small amount for sale on his site because most were sold in Japan as some sort of magazine promotion. Everyone was pissed, so he sent an apology email and said that he would do a blue one and you could either purchase 1 or 2. I remember people calling them the "sympathy" companions

Did he just decide to do 500, fill his orders, and sell the balance to dealers?

Regardless though, I've seen some horrific customs on those poor blues when they were relatively cheap- wonder if some of those folks regret getting out the paint set on those...

There are two stories regarding the run numbers. The first is that the Green was a run of 400, and the Blue a run of 500. Then there's the story that both were runs of 500. I can't tell you which is true, but I do remember when the Green was released it was mentioned as being a run of 400.
The Green was released first, and oversold. The Blue was made for those that got the "sorry, oversold" email. I believe the "leftovers" that weren't bought by the people on the "oversold" list went on kawsone.com. (I bought both through his website, and didn't receive an "oversold" email on the Green.)
There were a lot of stories of the Blues having a mean forward-leaning stance. And also stories that the vinyl was thinner and air bubbles could be seen. I was lucky to receive one of the better Blues - great stance, no air bubbles, but when held up to the light the vinyl is a bit thinner than my Green. And as said, the Green glows a hell of a lot brighter than the Blue - but that's just due to the nature of the GID materials.
Enjoy the piece! Though I do think you should grab the Black, Brown or Grey colorway - those are really great! (It's really a shame that he's just painting Sponge Bob Square Pants and Smurfs and other lame shit for Pharrel...)

Doesn't KAWS have 2 or 3 gallery shows coming up? Like, the first gallery shows in nearly a decade! That oughta do a whole lot more for him than Kanye ever did. Besides, he still has a hip-hop "mogul" backing him in Pharrel.
