I had no idea he was that big (when you say "standard 9" toy", I assume you're referring to the MM and not the mummy/s?)! Congrats. That Matago Man is pretty interesting, too (although he kind of looks more like an elderly asian woman to me).
Wow, end of the week, and I really needed a post like this. So thrilled for you Lixx! That is one astounding piece of vinyl polyurethane. I am really in love with him. I know there was some in initial hesitation, but no question you made the right move. He is just so amazing, in all the ways you've already mentioned. So happy you were able to snag one when you could. And yes, I would looove for us all to have a chance at one too. Fantastic poses too, thanks for sharing those extra photos. It makes it almost even more difficult to not have one of these, if such a thing were possible, seeing how wonderfully your shots have brought him to life, and done justice to Shelterbank's wonderful creation.
Very cool that it arrived so fast too! What kinda packaging/header card did it have? After seeing this I wish Shelterbank would get the licensing for 1960's Topps Ugly Stickers Monsters!
I just discovered those yesterday! If you're only posting one, how could it not be a Basil Wolverton one
Mandarake is extremely fast and EMS makes USPS look like they deliver mail via horse and buggy. Just a plain bag and the header that was in the collage pic I did. Nothing special. He has this 8 bit flavor appeal about him.
I get that vibe too -- I think it's the simple color palette and the 'curviness' of the faces and overall design. He looks like he could be a sub boss in a Mega Man game. Awesome score, Chris! Super cool toy. I too have learned over the years to pull the trigger given the opportunity. You never know when or IF that opportunity will happen again. Gotta catch 'em all.
been eyeing these guys too, they look perfect. a nice mix of garage kit/ rat fink resin stuff mixed with the special yokai feeling.
Thanks banshee! I know he's from GeGeGe Kitaro but he reminds me of a mummy in this Sega video game I played as a youth. Anyhow here are some cool sort of 8 bit shots lol:
Ah, I never got to play that Kitaro game, but it seems like just the sort of thing I would have loved! It is such a shame that a lot of these great ones for NES/SNES never got translated/ported into other markets.
It looks like there were two Kitaro games for the NES that were translated for emulation. One is the first game that was changed and released in the US as Ninja Kid and the other is an RPG not released outside of Japan. Not sure if you're aware of those. They're even available in-browser so you don't even need to fool around with ROMs and whatnot if you don't want to. Let me know if you need more info.
