I've heard nothin' but good things. A couple close buds of mine saw it at an advance screening a few weeks ago; they say it blows the first outta the water. We were emailing back and forth today, and they both have plans to see it again tomorrow!
Super stoked. I just bought the HB 3-disc set and plan on making my wife watch it with me a dozen or so times before we see pt.II. She's never even seen the first, and I know she's gonna dig it.
Sine I can separate the comic and the movie in my head I end up enjoying the movies. Fun, action-packed, cool-looking. I'm sold, 2 looks just the same. It's not the comic, but if I expected it to be than I'd be nuts, that's how comics-to-movies work.
i hope to catch this soon. all the "ladies" in my life voted batman over this next weekend for my b-day but i can't complain about that either.
Wife and I are going tonight - I'm actually more excited for this than Batman next week. Everything I've seen looks amazing.
This got a "gross don't wanna see it" response from the wife. Same for Machine Girl But she at least agreed to go see Detroit Metal City!!!
My girl is more psyched than I am. She has to work tonight so we're forced to wait until tomorrow afternoon.
So, loved it. Had a great time, as will any fan of the comic or any monster lover in general. So many eye-popping creature designs, and what makes them all much cooler is the fact that most were actual suits and make-up, enhanced or smoothed with a bit of CGI here and there. All really weighty and realistic. GDT definitely has such a love and respect for the old-school craft of creature fx/design, and it shows. I did have a few nitpicky problems with it, though, chief among them the opening sequence. While I loved the way in which they chose to show the backstory, I was really, really bugged by the way young Hellboy was realized for the screen. I was psyched back when I learned that there would be a young HB sequence; the look (and actor, really) they went with...oof...downersville, straight out the gate. The fact that the rest of the movie was so goddamn fun, funny, and visually flawless is a big part of what made that sequence stick out like a sore thumb for me, so really, I can't complain (unless you get me started on the baby-carrying...but...let's just leave that alone for tonight).
I liked the first movie, I mean, he basically kills an elder god at the end of it, how cool is that? But I saw the second one, and it is probably better than the first in most respects. The fight choreography was pretty sick, pretty damn sick. I liked the overall melancholy feel of it, definitely not a typical "good guy vs. bad guy" thing like the first movie. The creatures were totally ridiculous, like the forest god, the weird winged demon thing, and pretty much every other troll, goblin, etc. Also, Hellboy's girlfriend is so cute, just the kind of messed-up chick I would be into, heh. And I agree, the Hellboy as a kid sequence was just... off. Although it was kinda funny to be like, "Huh, Hellboy was a total DWEEB when he was a preteen, heheh!"
