I dont understand why the UK is so brutal with customs fees. I mean, there are no Commonwealth countries making toys, wheres the conflict?
I just got a $100 Gamagon and the seller didn't mark it as $25.00 as requested . . . goy hit with £12.50 customs/import duty/VAT plus £13.50 from the distribution depot for the paperwork £26.00 = an extra $50 on top of a $100 item . . . fuckers! Expecting the same again on the TT Halloween set
Hey Andy, I ship stuff to the UK now and then and haven't had problems, but what happens if it get "lost" and the stated value is $25 instead of it's actual/insured value?
The buyer is screwed, its on their head if they ask you to mark it down so they should accept the responsibility if it goes belly up. Obviously you can only claim to the value marked on the customs.
nonetheless... i wish i had the current spending power of the UK'ers. I always mark stuff as a gift worth $35. has anyone here in the U.S. ever had any tariff/custom charge slapped on? i always get worried, but have never gotten dinged.
I bought a bunch of stuff from a UK online store a few years back and got hit for something like 220 worth of fees and taxes..Fucking ridiculous...It was roughly about 500 dollars worth of shit too..
Governments in other countries have to make money somehow. Take for instance France - they don't make crap. Their economy sucks. They're out banging instead of working (which I would do too if I didn't have a mortgage). How else is the government going to bring in revenues???? On the other hand, the foreign currency translation rate is in their favor. Something that we pay $100 for, they only pay only $70.
Never been taxed on anything i have had shipped to me. Even stuff listed at full cost. Nothing at all. I did have a couple of shipments of Repro Henshins held up in customs - I'm guessing because of the chrome plated bomb like innards - but nothing else at all. Ahhhh, good ol' convict country.
Andy i know what you mean, bloody parcelforce!!! every package from Japan gets hit not only for customs duty but yeah that 13.50 paperwork charge! basically PF charge you 14 quid to send you a letter that tells you you not only have to pay but you have to collect it too!! i got a murder blob for $180 and even tho it was marked as a gift and used they charged me £31 and basically did nothing for the money!! yes i concur.....fuckers!!!!
was tempted to go for the tt one every day. then got my halloween set off the bay yesterday from a very nice member of this board. and even a real rfso price! thanks. so lucky. now will start another tt thread today.
That's the gamble! . . . the way I figure is if it's possible to insure it for $25.00 but get some kinda online tracking number it should be easy to locate exactly where it went AWOL. Because it's insured it should be taken care of a lil' more than regular Airmail and I guess no one would risk an arse kicking or losing there job to steal a $25.00 toy. Fortunately I've never had a problem with it! The extra $50 to get hold of the black/orange skuzzed up set looks well worth it . . . the only other alternative I've seen was the $300+ Voller auction on YJA.
