I was able to register and get a ID today. But I'm stuck on stage 4 where I have to register as yahoo premium member to bid beyond 4999 yen. I must admit I was looking at auction and saw the english tab and just registered to see if it would actually work and it did! You can't give a @yahoo.com as your email address, won't except that domain. What does this all mean? If we can actually pay the registration fee to yahoo japan, and the sellers begin shipping abroad (read I sense the japanese economy is pretty much an export economy so they are now opening the doors!) it pretty much means no more middle men and the floodgates are now open. LASH you are talking about registering on Yahoo Japan right? Because that's what I just did by myself without Celga.
Exactly, I created a new account, and just like you I cant figure out how to create a yahoo wallet so I go premium. Once I can figure this out I can bid without celga. I think you will have a problem when you use you regular account as Yahoo japan is different. You will get invoices and the only way to pay is with wallet. I sent a inquiry to them so lets see what happens.
I registered mine to a non yahoo email account. From what I noticed though there are only a limited number of auctions for the international version. Perhaps if it takes off more sellers will get on board. Let me know what you hear about the 'wallet'
I'm working on it now I'm sure thought that even if you win you will need an account to pay for the auction. Its gonna be like the paypal of YJA.
Okay I figured out most of it. Now my only problem is when I enter my phone number is keeps saying its wrong. there are 3 boxs. The first allows 6 digits the second 4 and the last 4. I figured out that the first is the area code plus the first 3 digits. The second box your last 4. its the third box that I dont understand ?? I found the exact same page in Japanese and it translates the last box as " half angle number " ?? Does anyone here know what that means ?
Seems the ones who list with this feature are. This is a beta version so I think over time it will get better.
i have a japanese bank account, japanese friend, and all that jive, so i've had an account for a couple years now... if all the skullbrain members get accounts and can cut out the middle man, there will be more bidding on the toys I want! oh well, it was good while it lasted. Good luck, I hope for your guys' sake it works out, cause celga and other services are a rip off. Although I don't know if the Japanese culture will change at all, so you will still have a ton of sellers not willing to ship internationally.
I wonder if I could hijack the account that I already paid for through celga gold and use it though this service. Celga probably wouldn't be too happy about that.
Ahhh your right, but celga also has all your passwords and account info and could shut you down like a riot at a club on friday night.
i registered a username and password, but i'll be damned if i put credit card info on there. i can't get the pages to go secure
IIRC, Yahoo Japan Auctions has always required that participants have accounts with Japanese banks, so you may be screwed.
You have to put 0 then your area code in the first box when putting in your number. I'm stuck at putting in my crediy card number.
I edited my earlier post, but I suggested maybe the english part is for english speakers living IN japan
Yup that worked, sadly they don't accept VISA or Discover. So the next person should try mastercard and see if that works. Man you have to jump through hoops !
Interesting hopefully we will be able to give celga the boot! Enuff paying 20 bucks for a 10 dollar mini!
YJA used to allow overseas credit cards, but that changed over a year ago. Now you need a Japanese bank account or credit card issued from a Japanese bank to bid on anything higher than 4999 yen.
Ahhhh this would explain the no CC thing. So, even with all this unless we have a Japanese bank account we are screwed huh ? So doing all this work is pointless ...... what a tease.
I think Yahoo Japan has always been pretty clear on this. Who told you that you could register without a Japanese bank account?
No one ever personally said it. Its just that there is now an english beta version that will let you view all of YJA in english. Well all the sellers that are willing to do so. It also asks you to register. And the last part, to be able to bid over 4900 yen is to register your payment info with yahoo Japan wallet. So with all this I thought it was safe to say that they where now accepting out of country bank accounts. But alas its true, I contacted the beta service and this is what I got : "Thank you very much for using Yahoo! JAPAN. The credit cards accepted to register in Yahoo! Wallet are Visa or MasterCard. Unfortunately, some credit cards issued overseas may not be used to register in Yahoo!Wallet. Thank you for your understanding. In Addition, please ensure that you are the cardholder for any credit card registered to Yahoo! Wallet. Credit cards bearing the name of family members, spouses, friends or any name other than yourself cannot be registered." So although they do accept visa or mastercard I believe you need to have them registered to a Japanese account. Back to celga ........
Or you could find a Japanese bank that will issue you a credit card, or give you a bank account. It's possible.
