I was unaware of this toy until Brian mentioned it in an email. I was fortunate to win this beautiful example earlier this year. I have seen a few others since then, but most have the red highlights faded to some degree. Any information concerning the origin of the Bon Festival figures would be greatly appreciated. What other figures were released and how does the paint differ from the standard issues? Are any featured in The Beautiful Book of Monsters, because this one is not? Thanks for any info!
I have no info to offer, Mark...but that toy is absolutely gorgeous. Like you needed me to tell you that!
That's a great pick up Mark! It took me years to track one down. I saw my first one in Japan, and kicked myself for years for not coughing up the money to buy it when I could. Yuji Nishimura told me about the Bon Festival figures, and years later, Kashimoto of Toygraph even had a bagged Mefilas! There are three Bon Festival figures: 1. Baltan Seijin - same green vinyl and paint as the regular release but with additional metallic red sprays 2. Antler - same green vinyl as the regular release, but with metalic blue spray on the head, arms, legs, and chest and red stripes down the chest. 3. Alien Mefilas - same light grey vinyl but with a white face, metallic blue chest and arms, metallic red on belly That said, the photos and info have been waiting for a certain "mook" to be published....
Ah, so THAT'S what the deal was with the 2nd Soul of Bullmark Antlar! Been wondering about that for years. Nifty.
Great find Mark, what a beautiful Baltan. I really love the extra colours on the Bon version. Agh, more torturous tease for the next Mook.
Thanks for the info, Brian. It's great to finally know the story behind these toys. Here's my Bon Festival Antler: I'm guessing this is the Bon Festival Alien Mefilas (not mine). The red on the belly probably faded away.
Yeah about that mook? All we be forgiven if it's all about vintage -bootlegs/rarities/heroes etc etc etc- sort of a definitive guide
Such a tease Brian. I didn't think we could get much more excited over a new Mook, but there ya go shattering that ceiling.
That Baltan is gorgeous. Congrats on the score Mark. I'm afraid to ask but what's the going rate for that version? I usually don't get too excited about paint variants but this one make me see the figure in an entirely new way.
