Nice pics! I love doing that Standard to tiny mini size variation photo myself. Although I could only do that with a vintage Marusan Ultraseven and Bandai mini U7. Would love to be able to do it for a vintage Hawaiian Red King though (I only have the Bandai mini)! That last photo is great. Did the the missus or relative set up that Christmas town and you just invaded it with Goji? The x-mas shopper with the bag has a classic terrified look on his face!
Thanks Lixx! Yeah I'm in the same boat as you. I have that same mini Red King, but my full size is the standard colorway... if only it was the Hawaiian! But I have a couple mini/standards, I'll try and take some pics of them. Makes me think of Sanjeev's pic that I've always liked: And about the pic, I was visiting my parents for xmas and my mom had a bunch of her Department 56 figures displayed. And (with a few helpful links) my parents had got me that Goji as a xmas present, so having him terrorize the village seemed like a no-brainer.
Word up! Incidentally, I've since crammed all these guys (plus a couple additions) into a detolf...but I'm still pretty proud of this shot! =) Anyway...definitely glad this thread is active again!
Heh...so here's just a sorta teaser shot of my all-villain top shelf I instagrammed a month or so ago: I'm still looking to design and install proper lighting in this detolf...but my buddy (the guy with the *actual* handyman skills!) is dealing with a roof-collapse in his workshop due to all the snow this winter... :/
Bringing some more activity to this thread with a couple photos of a recent pickup for me. Love this guy's very unusual (and not a little bit goofy) pose. His quirky limbs really look like he might be out for a good having a blast.
Another classic 'seijin', and still yet another monster this time again from Ultraseven (did I mention I love these guys? ). I love this fella, fun character, a cool kaiju, and that very special Bullmark detail of sculpt and paint, just amounts to a really great toy. A bit more simplistic than some of the other traditional kaiju, but I have always liked how he is a great combination of otherworldly monster and pulp sci-fi being.
Ooh, very nice Bell Seijin, Steve! Such a great design and I've always loved the look of the touch of red paint with the light blue vinyl on that Bullmark.
I've finally managed to somewhat update some of my shelves (added/swapped out only a few items but tried to create a tier effect so I could see them all better). Most of the items are vintage, so I thought I would add the photos here. I really wish I could take passable photos.
Ha you know what it is? We're just so super excited of the material we're photographing! I know I get the shakes taking vintage toy pics. You have such a nice collection of toys. Some real gems in there. Mecha Kong! Missle Firing Mecha Goji! Fucking Mech Goji?!! That's such a hard one to find...ahhh too many to name!
Oh wow. And here I thought I was doing alright. That whole setup is draw dropping. Such wonderful variety of colours and sizes. You have done a really nice job of displaying them all too. Amazing collection you have put together there Myles. As Lixx pointed out, so many choice figures, both vintage gems and classic 'neos.' I am very envious. And, for what it's worth, I think that those are as good are great photos, it is near impossible to not get excited with anything like that subject matter. Keep on rockin' it!
Thanks, guys. Much appreciated. I took a ton of photos and edited the crap out of them to be able to see anything, but everything is still kind of hard to see (e.g., the blue Neronga is lost in the middle of one shelf, and everything is washed out). Its a combination of bad lighting in the room and me using my camera phone, which I thought was supposed to take good photos. I think it might be time to go back to the real camera, even though its a lower megapixel camera. For the longest time, I just had everything at the same level, and I just could not see my stuff. It was very depressing to me. Since I took down my diecast display to keep everything in their boxes instead, I freed up all my risers and such, so I figured it was time to apply them to my vinyls. I am pretty pleased with the visibility of everything now. I probably should still remove a few to thin it out, but I have so much in storage already, so I really wanted to keep out as much as possible. (BTW, bonus points to anyone that can point out all the modern mixed in with the vintage in the first three photos. Kind of hard to do without more clear photos though).
Great shelves! The mix of vintage and newer stuff works great, and they have a nice mix of crowded in, but you can actually still see everyone without getting lost. and I'll give the bonus a shot (probably missing a few. megalon and mecha g... can't tell if they are the m1go repros or OGs): Spoiler 1st pic / top row - giant aurora godzilla, jet jaguar, titanosaurus, sanda and gaira, mecha g in the tank, green/blue manilla, and glow godzilla. 1st pic / 2nd row- manda, gold mecha g 2nd pic- us toys kanegon, both of the big baltans 3rd pic- matango, brown m1 ___(?), baltan, bop dragon, yellow guy(?), eyezon, jirass, birabrain, guy with the star(?) dokugan, and brown guy with the horn. I feel like I was going pretty good until the end, when I few names escaped my memory, ha.
Thanks, and amazing job on the vintage/new ID. I think you got them all! (And yes, those two MechaG and Megalon figures are modern and not vintage (one day...)). I did not mention that last photo because that is mostly modern, but you got it all anyway! It might have been easier to ID the five vintage ones in that photo. I am truly impressed. (Oh, and the giant Kanegon is B-Club, I think. Not the US Toys one. But close enough.)
Not to hijack the thread but for phone camera users, a photographer friend of mine recommended this to me a while back. Never used one since I mainly use a point and shoot (although once working I've been looking into getting a Nikon D3300 maybe). Basically tripods for camera phones: http://www.istabilizer.com I think all of us here just love seeing pics (quality be damned lol!). I linked all my photos in Vintage Mail Day & Cyborg Clear threads again at least. Sorry for the sudden removal years ago.
Damn, I'm late to the ID party. Love that game. The only newer fig that I didn't see mentioned was Gotengo, the ship from Atragon. BEAUTIFUL display, man. Well hunted.
Wonderful collection, thanks for posting! even more than the figures I find it really interesting the way people display their treasures.
Kingboy D, very nice collection! I do very badly want to shove your Marusan Ebirah onto your shelf more, looks like he could fall off at any moment... I know I've shown my vintage collection else where on Skullbrain, but I don't think I've posted it in this thread. I've got some more stuff too since I last posted, so I need to get updated pics.
Just got this pair in the mail. Vinyl is a bit stiff and they need a cleaning, but lots of charm through the paint wear.
Nice! The mini Soul of Bullmarks figures really made me appreciate this guy a lot more than before they were issued. I really need to add one to my collection (among the many other Bullmarks!). And Gudon is just such a creepy (and good) design. Congrats!
