Post Buying it back
Most of us sell things from time to time. Has there ever been a toy that you sold, later regretted it, and tracked another one down?

Image

The 2007 Gargamel Lucky Bag Bakobas (unpainted version) was among my first few purchases of JP vinyl. It was also the subject of some of my first toy photos and a really old post on my blog. After a while, noticing that I didn't have many Gargamel figures, I decided to sell the Bakobas to fund other purchases.

When I happened upon this painted version recently, I couldn't help picking it up. I hoped to find the painted version back in 2007, but they were quite hard to come by even then. Bakobas is still my favorite of the Gargamel Zokkis, and they did a phenomenal job with the 2007 LB 'guts figures (Bakobas and Zagoran). It is a stunning figure, even 7 years later, and brings back some nice memories as well.

Haha, nice idea for a thread. I can say there are plenty of figures that I have sold for one reason or another (not being wealthy being the main one) that I regret.. Unfortunately in most cases I haven't been able to replace them.. I'm curious to see what other people post, and I'll go through my old files and see if I still have old pics to remind me of things I wish I still had.

I had to track down this GID M1 Rodan again, it is the only toy I've ever bought back. I think I sold it the first time around because I lacked space but soon afterwards realized "that was a mistake". Fortunately I found it relatively cheap years later (I think even cheaper than the first time around).

^^^ I can certainly see how the regret would set in after selling that beauty. Glad your story had a happy ending to it.

Just a thought, but maybe people could include trade regrets>reunion stories as well?

this monster http://www.microforever.com/transferfortress.htm
It took me long time to track this down.... at a price i was willing to pay. Sold it in a cleaning frenzy... it's kinda big, but always really missed it. Found it again for more than what i bought it for... but same as what I sold it for but with almost half another ship. Pretty happy to have it back in my collection.

I've been known to have sell-offs to help expedite life stuff I want to do, but some figures I always come back to.

Before I moved to Oregon, I had to sell a lot of stuff for med-bills, and moving cost. My tokoji collection went up, but thanks to a super-nice board member, I was able to get the koi tokoji back that I dug so much. (plus a bunch of other production run pieces that were not too easy to come by). You guys rock. Thank you!

I think I've only sold toys a couple of times. One of them I needed a lot of money and I sold 12-15 toys. Boy have I regretted every single one of them, but I really had no choice. But there's one I really didn't wanna let go and I knew it would hurt from the moment I let go. Astro-mu, Jupi Ros.

I've only seen one more for sale since, although haven't been looking too hard. Had to pass because didn't have funds. But it still hurts.

Axolotl that blows. Iv'e never held an Astro Mu but they look super fun.

I still haven't bought this one back, but I need too. I don't collect bogs and didn't know anything about them when I bought this Shub Bog mash up. First online lotto win.Its the only one I really want, the head and body work so well together, really have to see it in person for it to take effect. I didn't even take pictures of it, double bummed. Wish they would do more.

Thanks for the responses, although I guess it may open up old wounds if you haven't been able to find the toy again.

I didn't mean to exclude trade stories by the thread topic. I'm just curious to see why people seek out toys that they voluntarily let go, particularly for collectors that have been around for a while. Nostalgia? Renewed interest in a collecting area?

I have a few others to add in a bit...

Post Re: Buying it back
Good thread Daniel.
I recently bought back 4 of my blank damns, from the AWESOME collector I sold them to back when.
When I sold them to him we were in agreement that this "could" happen.
He ended up buying a chuck of stuff when I sold them to him, so he ended up with 2 blanks which I was more happen to accommodate his request of the 2 outta 6 he bought. Im grateful for this collector, because I know I wouldn't have got any of these back, especially if they would have been broke up. Being selfless when collecting will get you a lot more friends then being selfish. After all they're just toys or whatever, you can't enjoy them when you're dead.
Ive been slowly buying stuff again, but you know me, I stick to Rumble. So only damns & awakening series, which is fine with me.

I bought them back because, to tell the truth I couldn't stay away, I'd go check RMS website & be like fuuuuckkkk I WANT that!!
then I'd get emails from Japan "hey this is what rms is coming out with. do you want"? And having to turn down those emails so many times, sucks. Then they stop coming  .
Those relationships took time & they were fun building them and I've truly missed them, so i said fuck it. Just pacing myself trying to get production pieces is hard enough, but its something that makes me happy.

/me casts Thread Necromancy for 1,000,000 DMG

Though not purchased, I just recently got this handsome fellow back in my collection. I traded the one that I initially owned and the moment he was out of my hands, I felt regret. This toy is easily in my top five favorite sofubi and I don't know what the hell I was thinking (or rather, I wasn't).

In a hobby where collectors tend to horde, this is the only Boss I need to be happy. A bajillion thanks to the awesome brainer buddy who helped me acquire my second Squeaky.

Ahh, just the topic I was looking for.

Not much of a story here.
A very early member of my collection, I eventually sold it, citing my "one version per sculpt" rule - a rule for which I already had plenty of exceptions.
Why no exception for this face?

Repurchased.

Post Re: Buying it back
I have a lot of these stories. When bringing things in for the shop, I often sold things I wanted to customers as I figured there would always be something else around the corner. Often a month or year later I'd be thinking about that figure and kicking myself for not keeping one. I've had this happen a lot with records as well. Sometimes someone would set me off and I'd sell everything from one artist, only later wishing I could get them back. :-P

The biggest was not keeping one of our exclusive ilu ilu peppy. Luckily enough, it didn't take long for someone to sell there's back to me at original cost. (very kind of them!)
