Damn, Jim - those Rainbows are all extra bonkers! What a fun box to open that must have been.

Digging your new NA creeper too, skeet. This page is shaping up nicely.

Love Pineapple Head! I knew of the character but never saw the toy before. And well the Leafman of course are my most sought after want behind a large Bullmark Tiger 7. Nice group.

Post Re: The "What you just got in the Mail" Thread
Thanks everyone - I'm sort of surprised Rainbow figures don't get more interest from the board - many of them epitomize the weirdness that got a lot of us into collecting Japanese figures.

I've also wondered how Rainbow can afford to produce so many figures at what seem like very low production numbers (based on how hard many of them are to find). I recall discussions on this board about the set-up cost for producing new figures in Japan (the cost of the sculpt, making the metal mold, etc.) - and it was pretty high. Granted it seems like Rainbow recycles a generic sort of body for many of their figures and thus only needs to sculpt new heads (then add capes, staffs/accessories, etc.). Even so, some of the figures have to be very expensive to make because they involve entirely new, from the ground-up sculpts (like the red Goranger figure and pineapple head figures) and they tend to not do multiple colorways as a way of recouping those costs. So I'm sort of mystified how they stay in business.

Man, Pineapple Mask is great! I saw the preview of that figure in one of the magazines and, sadly, forgot about watching for the preorder.

I was under the impression that Rainbow Zoukei Kikaku is a subsidiary of one of the larger entertainment or toy companies. I think they also produce high-end tokusatsu prop replicas, so they are definitely a niche business.

^^ Yeah, i think 'Rainbow' is a subsidiary of Toei Company Ltd.
I'm pretty sure they do the actual costumes for Tokusatsu TV shows & movies, large and small props and toy figures (which they term 'advertising' figures).
The toys go under the title 'Superhuman Monster Studio'.

Here's the site for their props etc.

Some articles on the figures:
