Just got the Dead Presidents Tripus. The clear vinyl is definitely not on par w/ Jp releases, but the sculpt & the paint job are nice (small run hp by Matt). And for the price, I can forgive the bubbles in the vinyl (and he does live underwater - maybe it's the bends.)

Thanks for the great pics... I love Matt and his work, but they're often too colorful for my shelves. This Tripus sure is pretty tho... I actually think the bubbles in the claws and stuff look really good. Flawless crystal clear is certainly a good thing, but the imperfect vinyl here adds some character to the toy.

I am always amazed at how much the glossy coating improves non-JP clear vinyls. Even the Onell Gobons (not vinyl) became crystal clear after he worked on them.

It must have to do with smoothing out the surface of the material, allowing light to pass through more easily. Maybe someone with a science background knows the specifics?

You are right on there... I've done this a couple times now with clear Eyezon customs. Glossing the inside and outside before putting any paint on provides a great deal more clarity. Walker uses enough serious gloss to effectively do the same thing, but I don't know if he glosses the vinyl first.

The Garuban color thing never occurred to me for some reason, even though I love that giant Garuban and really want one. They look great together tho!

one was in the BST this morning for 125 shipped, which still isn't heavy hitter status... i've just always been a cheap skate when it comes to toys. which probably explains why it took me so long to break down & start collecting kaiju

Ah yes, back when 100$ toys were expensive pieces in the collection... Think carefully before you break the next wall, once they're down they don't go back up!

Oh, those were the days... I haven't bought anything real pricey in years, but I have gone over four figures a couple times in the past, mainly on diecast though. Pretty stupid, but I know guys who break five figures on occasion.
