It seems like there are 4 or 5 series, the figures above being from series 1, 2 and 3.

I think the first 3 sets were capsule gashapon toys and sets 4 & 5 were sold in boxes much like the Bullmark Legend candy toy series as Bonemask mentions above. The cool thing about series 4 & 5 is they were packed in little bags with header cards inside the boxes. I think sets 4 & 5 are harder to find than the first 3.
