the far left is the turtle and pogo himself . is that what you were refering to ? BTW these were made in japan back in the 60s . dont think that makes them japanese vinyls though as they were for the american kids .

I'm in the process of processing my collection and getting it properly displayed and detolf-ed... I'm still slugging through all the 32gallon Rubbermaid bins
stacked to the ceiling in my "storage area". :roll:
Once I get things under control I'll post some new pics...
: )
Bibyun perhaps ?

Chad,

You and I are thinking of the same Pogo figures - Jim's may be different, but they look pretty much the same. Here's something I found on a Pogo site for clarification;

Where can I find those cute little plastic figures of the Pogo cast?

Jeepers. Where can't you find them? They came with various brands of Proctor & Gamble detergent in 1969 as part of a tie-in to promote The Pogo Birthday Special which aired on NBC that year. Rumor has it Mr. Kelly wound up being a lot happier with the plastic figures than the special. He personally sculpted the originals of the six: Pogo, Albert, Churchy, Howland, Porkypine and Beauregard. You can see Beauregard at right, horrifyingly shrink-wrapped to a box of Biz. There are washerwomen who've had nightmares about finding themselves in the same predicament. Anyway, they turn up all the time on eBay and in antique toy catalogues, so don't go paying a lot for them. (One of the guys who maintains this site found his Pogo lying on the ground in the parking lot of his bank. You might try looking around the parking lot at yours.)

That was it!

Thanks for the info. I'm not going to collect these but knowing the info is cool since I had 4 of 'em as a kid. I was 3 in 1969...

i was i little surprised anyone even picked up on those pogo vinyls . yes,they are cheap ($8 to $10 ) and pretty easy to get but i really like the artwork of kelly and this was an easy way to get them in 3D.

Jim,
Walt Kelly was completely amazing, in my opinion, and I think it's a shame that the Pogo strips haven't been given the respect they deserve - although, with the recent Peanuts collections and the Calvin and Hobbes box set (not to mention the Krazy Kat collections) hopefully it's not far off. Now I have to hunt these down . . .

Another great comic artist that certainly was not appreciated till late in his career was Wally Wood. His EC/Mad work, Thunder Agents, Wizard King, Cannon, to name a few are some of the best comic art in comic history. As was Walt Kelly, I considered Wood and incredible draftsman/illustrator as well.

ohh... and there is an amazing collection called "Art Out of Time: Unknown Comics Visionaries 1900-1969" that came out last year, a highly recommended book... some of my favorite cartoonist feautring there: Boody Rogers and Milt Gross. they are so damn awesome

That's Daigoro. His mother is to his left and his enemy (blanking on the name now) is to his right.

the hippo is daigaro from the movie diagaro . there are 3 vinyls that were made from that movie which are daigaro , daigaros mom and goliath the bad guy . for some reason godzilla collectors have a hard time thinking these are toho kaiju as it was a joint venture between tsubaraya and toho .still , i believe if godzilla collector is going to have " yog " on the shelf these also need to be there too . i will try to take a better pic of all 3 .
