I bought my first Japanese vinyl figure on December 8th, 2007 at Toy Tokyo NY -- the Skull Bee pictured below. Since then, this is what has accumulated. What's more frightening -- that the sickness has taken hold so strongly after less than a month... or that I have two more Dream Rocket figs., 4 more Secret Base including the full-color Usugrow, a clear Blobpi, and a RxH shinto-san STILL ON THE WAY?!?!

[edit: posted better pics]

Stands are from these guys:

http://www.potomacdisplay.com/pd_catalog.cgi?dmt=on&mt=669&store_id=1842&session_id=XT2XUR183N&tt=1111

The 3" square barbell stands at 4 3/8" and 8 3/8" inside a Detolf work wonderfully for Secret Base figures, three rows 4-figures wide. I put the inside two stands/figures about an inch more forward than the outside two, so all the figures don't get up in each other's shit. Being fight figures, I wouldn't want them all to rumble and mess up my Detolf!

Ah, the 'little bit of everything' collection.

I think you have some great first pieces there- especially the full Walder Blob set. Keep posting updates as your collection grows!

You know, this book might be worth looking into:

No joke, I am really thinking about buying a copy and living the ramen/kaiju way of life.

I reckon I have at least a few more month before the lesion in my brain that drives this newfound obsession grows a little bit, and then I will find this "focus" you speak of...

they speak the truth - sample a bit of all that interests you - one day things will click - you'll zero in on one select area and really go balls to the wall tryin to collect EVERYTHING in that interest

I finally settled on SB / Rxh / and Hedorah - full plate for me always chasing the next great piece - and thank you for the riser info - that company makes some interesting stuff!

I've been seriously collecting toys for over 10 years now and I'm still waiting for that "focus switch" to go off...does this mean I'm still a beginner?

i love my (large) mixed bag...to hell with completism! (unless it's one of the figs I want to be complete on...)

I'm not a completist by no means, but have been collecting for years(different stuff),but I have finally found the one thing that completes me and that's RxH..I've collected everything from hotwheels to gemstones and alot of stuff in between, when I first started collecting kaiju I bought different stuff, then I got my first RxH piece and I was hooked(but I keep everything in perspective & I also keep a budget)don't get me wrong I collect a few other pieces of kaiju too..But after awhile you will find that one thing that really trips your trigger... BUT then again you might be the type that likes all different kinds of kaiju, and there's nothing wrong with that at all.. :)

The one who dies with the most vinyl wins

What they don't tell you is:
1. You die from starvation, for lack of money to buy food :(
2. You die from the vinyl fumes, but you have a smile on your face :D

My parents spoiled me with Japanese toys (mostly robots) when I was a kid but back then I didn't really appreciate the toys themselves. Then came a period of 16 years where I was totally out of touch with it let alone collecting. My spirit was later on rekindled around 3 years ago by a Gold Lightan Chogokin reissue. Thanks to that I've learned to value them more and am now on the path of poverty.
