I picked up tickets for the Seattle show a few weeks back. I was amazed they were $25 for a small, intimate venue. Beats the hell out of $100 to sit 1/4 mile away in some acoustically fucked up concrete mega-structure.
Can't wait - Nick Cave rules! Warren Ellis is pretty amazing to watch, as well - guy can play anything!

in a related note & equally cool note [though they haven't come in the mail yet]... looks like i'll be seeing the einsturzende neubauten 30th anniversary show the following night. it's so great to feel like a teenager again.

look what i got today!!
a £37.16 customs bill for parcelforce/customs to hold my EMS package for two weeks...the package flew in on aug 31st..
ok,,i accept £23.66 on VAT/taxes,,but a £13.50 "clearance fee"!!
it's a scam!!!
Mon Sep 13, 2010 2:12 pm
on the nag right? I had to pay the same fucking charge and it was marked as a gift! pricks
Mon Sep 13, 2010 7:04 pm
It is a scam... Someone on minimum wage in the UK would have to work over 6 hours just to get a package marked 'gift'. Disgusting.
Mon Sep 13, 2010 7:45 pm
One of the few perks of living stateside- no duty taxes on toys. What a rip off that is.

the "parcelforce clearance fee" is a scam...parcelforce already made their money off me with the initial EMS charges...
to be fair,,nobody on minimum wage should be buying toys that incur £23.66 in VAT/taxes
marking the customs form as "gift" does not guarantee the waving of customs duties..it does help,,but what customs go on is the declared value..once it goes above a certain value,,,they WILL tax you (gift or merchandise)..although the merchandise levels are set much lower...
morale of the story to sellers of the world,,please be sensitive to your toy-buying brethren in "duty sensitive" countries & always declare "gift" with low value on the customs form...they are only toys afterall
Tue Sep 14, 2010 3:17 am
The gift limit is supposed to be £40. Recently I got one package marked as £36 and had to pay £15 to get it, later that week I got a package marked as £60, and didn't have to pay a penny :/

yeah, i have paid out loads of cash to parcel force over this. They essentially hold your toy ransom at their
depot and charge you for them to release it . . . . . customs charges are just a fact of life in the UK but
parcel force are flat-out ripping people off
Tue Sep 14, 2010 3:45 am
The parcelforce thing is just plain extortion.
I always try to encourage US sellers to send things standard 1st class international, no customs charges and it usually arrives much quicker than priority or ems!
Tue Sep 14, 2010 3:58 am
very true,,not using EMS/parcelforce is a real good way to avoid all this BS......regular postal packages rarely get flagged...
also,,i have been told that value limit before customs charges for "gift" packages is £38 while the limit for "merchandise" packages is £18...
either way,,it sucks all around....
Tue Sep 14, 2010 4:37 am
I just paid one yesterday for my latest Mummy Boy and another £17, the clearance fee is crazy for a little bit of tape - DICK HEADS
Tue Sep 14, 2010 7:17 am
Paid 71€ yesterday for my Hujili's custom...
Maximum importation value for France are 30$ when it has been shipped in EMS
Tue Sep 14, 2010 8:28 am
Man, if I had to pay customs charges I'd never buy toys. What a crock!
Tue Sep 14, 2010 10:29 am
same thing here, usually don't have to pay taxes for my toys but if you use EMS/FedEX/DHL/UPS most probably you'll have to pay 15% of the declared value. With EMS you never know, it only happens if your package is flagged, usually if the sender declared something really expensive, over 1,000 usd. I've only had to pay taxes once... 150usd... blah!!
