 Re: custom sludge demon
Nobody is trying to give you lessons in morels. Just pointing out that you are on a site devoted to collecting toys and that you covered up something that is hard to get and then telling us about it. We would have been better off if you kept us in the dark as to what is underneath there. You say that you can't get Sludgies very easily but you managed to get one that a lot of people are hunting. Meanwhile an unpainted GID one sat around on the sales threads for like a week a little while ago.

 Re: custom sludge demon
I really like your custom, the color is great and works beautifully on the sculpt. However, I do agree with the GID thing. Most GID toys are painted in a way that they look interesting both in the light and the dark. That's what makes them interesting, almost like you have 2 toys. I'm not going to jump in and say the toy is a waste though. I still really enjoy your custom, it's just a little disappointing knowing that the base vinyl is GID. I think more people would really enjoy your custom if you had either done it on a different base, or taken the GID into account. That said, some would still jump on you because they are after the particular Sludgie that you painted over. Dustin, you made some excellent points, just don't tell people about the yellow S-Taiin you painted over (I know they were all milky, just joking around.)

dustin wrote: dedoperucelli wrote: dustin wrote: dedoperucelli wrote: I would just like to read your opinions on color version and I do not need moral lessons ... I find it disappointing that you took a great GID toy and completely covered it with paint. For me, it makes the whole thing seem like a big missed opportunity. It might just be me, but I tend to think of GID toys separately from others. I like to see how well the glow has been incorporated into the paint app overall (both in the light and in the dark) and how the painter used the glow to achieve certain effects or bring out certain elements of the sculpt. You didn't do that at all. The MVH version was obviously painted in such a way that takes into account the GID vinyl. Since yours doesn't, it makes me agree with the folks who say this toy is a "waste." Essentially, your colors could have been painted on any other base color. I firmly believe that it's your toy and you can do whatever you want with it. I'm not gonna come after you for painting on something that you own. It's just that, in this case, you didn't improve what was there or make it more interesting. That's not really gonna go down smooth with the collectors out there who are chasing the GID version. Now, there's just one less MVH one out there for them to add to their collection because some dude who has, "the V-COLORS," decided to paint over one. It's unfortunate because, aside from the GID thing, there's nothing "wrong" with your custom. The colors are fine and all, and the execution actually seems pretty nice. It's just that it seems a bit thoughtless to put this kind of paint job on the GID toy. oh my god !?!?! oh my god !?!?! do you denounce me to the WWF?? ? think I understand ... even if I do not speak English very well, (it helps me a machine translation) I believe that this whole controversy is over. I repeat, for months looking for a sludge and it is the only one I could find. if I had found unpainted toy I'd buy it. if I found colored toy version appealed to me I would not have changed the colors. PS sorry for my english

dedo - just so you know customizing use to be a very touchy subject around here. Now, not so much because most "haters" decided to finally shut up about the topic. Here's an interesting thread on the topic: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=20305&hilit=customizers+debate

Here's an interesting thread on the topic: http://www.skullbrain.org/bb/viewtopic. ... ers+debateI do not think it was so hot topic ... I will continue to have fun with painting and sculpture. I'm producing my first resin toy and I would be happy if others wish to interpret it. I had written to rich an mail, telling him that the GID did not like me, saying to him that I'll changed the colors and rich did not seem perplexed .... was curious to see

Pogue wrote: For me this comes down to a difference between ethics and morals. Customizing is never a moral issue and only rarely an ethical one. Most often it is a non-issue and not really important or of any interest.
I do not think customizing is a moral issue. If you decided to customize a vintage Hawaii kanegon I would think you were nuts and I would experience a sense of loss. However, I do not think you should be punished or reformed in any way. In other words I don't think the collecting community needs to be protected from your actions. Your actions may cause harm and distress but they do not need to be forcibly deterred. Your free will is more important than any toy.
I do think customs can sometimes present an ethical dilemma. If you did paint that kanegon your actions would affect a community you have chosen to be a part of. Your decision to paint that kanegon will have negative effects (reactions) regardless of your intention or spirit. These negative effects are your creation and you should be willing to take ownership of them. When people in the community treat you differently because you painted that kanegon you shouldn't be surprised or bitter. They have a right to their worldview too.
Do what you want with your toys, they are yours. Be aware of how your actions affect the collecting community. Try not to be sensational while dealing with an ethical issue.

 Re: custom sludge demon
i dig this paint. really like the muted palette. just for the record, the unpaint GID that was sitting around in the fs section was mine. Sold to hellopike. i'm guessing he'll do a stellar job incorporating the GID vinyl into the final product

 Re: custom sludge demon
Been wanting to comment on this but have been so busy. I really like the way this came out, really nice colors ! About this being the mandarake version, I have no issues with him acetoing it and repainting it as he sees fit. Thats how I got started and I think this has 100% brought my painting career full circle. Its sort of surreal to be honest. Good work buddy

 Re: custom sludge demon
lol..... so funny and so true Rich. Good thing you didn't come out blasting dedo for re-painting your toy. that would have been too much pot calling the kettle black..... yes, very surreal actually. Rich and I have both taken a lot of shit for customizing toys. whatever. Does anyone really care now days that I had PK paint a GID Pirate? probably not. it was the same complaints being voiced here. paint on Dedo, paint on...!!!
