 GARGAMLEL X BLOBPUS CUSTOMS!
Ok all, here is my latest attempt at custom paint jobs. I am happy with the color and the blend, but I am impatient and messed the paint up in a few places with my fingers. Also still trying to figure out how much is enought paint, I think I cake it one in some places.
I got this extra blobpus body with that halloween hand puppet and joined it up with this blue gargamel paint version. The head I put on the blobpus body is from a lucky bag figure that I used the body for another head I had.
Let me know what you think, I am working on 2 more toy now I will post those when I am done. Any advice will help.

Those are pretty damn funny! You should send some pics to the respective companies. They'd probably get a kick out of them.

Nice Ramos.
Kinda sucks that Puppet version Blob doesn't come with a extra head.
I guess it forces us to be creative.
I snagged a pair of Clear Innocents. I plan to V color one, possibly with a clear purple tint and clear infused with really fine holigraphic rod-flake.
Sugar-plumb Blobpus.
Waitin' for the box

what is V color? Kozik told me you could dye the clear vinyl with RITT clothing dye. I want to try it.
good luck paul

personally i am REALLY curious to see some Blobpus customs and would even give up my innocent to the right party to mess with.
it's such an interesting and grotesque sculpt - and the eyes are so stand out - (not great with descriptions) it seems like there are so many things you could do with it.
i'm even thinking i might give it a try! (yikes)
i'd love to hear some ideas or a little knowledge about coloring techniques - like ramos mentioned, RIT dye, if anyone wants to volunteer

V color (By Irisawa) is a super nasty-stinky paint just for vinyl. It's impossible to get in the states and usually sold out online.
It's the same paint M-1 uses, and I'm sure many other toy companies like Secret Base use it too. Acrylics can be used too, but mostly stay tacky for a long time which kinda sucks up the dust.
I've never used Rit, but I'm sure it would work.
I'm looking foreward to seeing wayyy more dope customs here!

I want to track some of this paint down. Now I see what you mean about it being scarce and sold out here in the States. Maybe an attempt getting some directly from Japan is in order.

I found an online store in Japan that still has an inventory of most of the V colors. I'll see if I can round some up...

If you get in in the spray can, that's good if you don't airbrush.
But if you airbrush, you need the special V-thinner!
You need to way thin it before you airbrush, or else it blasts out like webs.
I have a good stock at home, but white is usually hardest to get in the bottle form.
Once I get my Blob, maybe I'll do a photo tutorial here for those that might need advice on using this stanky stanky paint.
You need a repirator too, this crap made me very sick one time I didn't wear one.

Cool. Thanks for the tips. I figured that most likely the bottled stuff required dilution before airbrush spraying. I wonder if a 400 ml bottle of that thinner could come through in a toy shipment, or if that wouldn't work. I read somewhere that it seems to be an acetone based spirit, so worst case scenario there ought to be something available domestically in the event the thinner isn't mailable by conventional means...
Got some respirators too.

I got some of the v color when in japan, it works good. But I found TAMIYA paints to work just as well. they have spray cans and airbrush style.
you can get Tamiya at most places in the US

You don't have problems with Tamiya being a bit sticky Ramos?

The webpage I am looking at which sells a load of the Tamiya paints has water soluble acrylics only. Are these the ones you are using, or is there a series of enamels, or some other solvent-thinned type that Tamiya also makes?
I see that they also have a line for painting polycarbonate R/C car bodies...

with the cans I have been using the ones for polycarbonate.
for the airbrush I guess I am using the acrylics. I just got the ones the guy at the store told me. It works cool. I am sure kozik can drop light on this subject.

I like the color combo! You should paint the nails and teeth orange or ruby. Kozik did that with gold and a pearl red on my Zaragon and it looks great! The G head on the B body looks sweet!

Frank posted this at KR a while ago so i dunno if this still holds true for finishing but here goes!!
I use a paasche doubla action airbrush with a big paasche silent compressor and moisture trap.
total cost about 600 dollars.
I use 2 brands of paint Tamiya X and Gunze Sanyo
I thin with 91% isoprpyl alcohol-available at any drug store
the tamiya I do 3:1 paint/alcohol ratio
the gunze 5:1 paint alcohol ratio
I use a general purpose medium needle for everything..for fine detail I turn the air pressure way down on the compressor and control with the dual action.

I wanna see one of them Cumberlain suit bodies w/ a skullbrain or skullwing head. Black suit, gold tie, gold & black head. A tentacle arm might be nice too - as it looks terrific on yours.
