Re: How to paint with V-Color
Not sure about Silly putty, but no residue with Playdoh. Probably because it's non-toxic, kiddie safe stuff. I would follow the general rule of masking, & not leave anything on the piece for too long.

Re: How to paint with V-Color
dumb question here.... what other paints can be used on vinyl? Are there any clear zags still available anywhere?

Re: How to paint with V-Color
I used Tamiya RC spray paint on a custom...I was gonna strip it & redo now that I have v-color (which IS the way to go) but I haven't had any issues w/ the Tamiya stuff yet.

Re: How to paint with V-Color
Hello, Thanks for all those tips but I've got a problem with my compressor I find no answer to on this forum: Using VColor even with a 50% dilution the mix bubbles up and would rather paint my ceiling than my kaiju ...Tried repetedly to clean the aerograph thoroughly but to no avail. Anyone could tell me how to deal with it ? Thanks.

Your gonna have to take the A/B apart and clean it very well. Something may have gotten stick by the needle head. Which type of brush do you use and which type of compressor do you use ?

Air pressure to high? Cup too full? Don't really know, I'm just throwing things out.

Sound like the paint cant excape so the pressure is excaping the only way out, which is back up. I would clean it REAL well, take it apart and let the metal parts sit in the thinner, then use cotten swabs to really rub off any old paint. Also did you use other paint besides Vcolor before and hand which may be stuck in there ?? The vcolor thinner may not be breaking that down.

I have had little success applying vcolor with a brush. you will go through it very quickly I would think
plus it dries very fast

Re: How to paint with V-Color
Ive been pricing up Iawata airbrush, Badger compressor etc in the UK,seems to be double the US price Was hoping I could start off painting by hand but now your telling me it's gonna suck. Can anyone recommend a good cheap airbrush start up kit? Or should I wait till I visit Dallas in January and buy the better stuff then... I just spent all my money on screen printing equipment and Im broke but am dying to try painting.

Re: How to paint with V-Color
You can use V with a brush, if you look at my customs most have some sort of brush work. Its just that it takes some time to learn how to work with it. And if you think you can wait, wait. I found that its always better to wait and buy once, then buy lesser product right away. Good luck.

You best bet for an airbrush+compressor is ebay. A bunch of us got our Iwata airbrushes with compressor for about $300 and I don't think any of us have had any problems with the equipment. The hardest part is, if you've never used an airbrush, is deciding if you should go with a gravity fed or a bottle fed airbrush. As far as a model goes...I think the majority of us use HP+ C or B.

Re: How to paint with V-Color
hey guys I read through most of the pages in this thread and saw there are alot of questions about basics on airbrushing, etc. These sites helped me along when I first started out. I'm no expert at airbrushing and still consider myself a beginner, but these sites helped me along and I still use them for reference http://www.howtoairbrush.comThis site is great for the beginner it has alot of information on different types of airbrushes, techniques etc. http://www.gamerabaenre.com/toolsandtechs.htmGamera Baenre is a hobbyist who builds mostly gundam. mecha and anime resin kits, but he has great tutorial videos on the basics of airbrushing and advanced techniques. He also has a tutorial on how to build your own spray booth! Even if you're painting kaiju and not gundam models the information is just as useful. hope this helps guys ^_^

Re: How to paint with V-Color
I would like to try my hand at airbrushing figures because I have a couple of ideas that I haven't seen done yet, but don't want to sink too much money into it in fear of not being very good and giving up. Are there any cheap airbrush setups worthwhile, or would I be better off getting an Iwata?
