if you had a dremel too or something to clean up the seams of your figures, i think it would help them a lot

I cut the flash off with an exacto knife.
These are all just direct from the mold so the flashing is still left around them.

Dremel/sanding the resin I use can be tricky because if there is a glossy finish to the resin, it is lost after sanding or tooling it. Some of the seems are more pronounced than others b/c of the original toys that I used (which won't be an issue once when I go back to original sculpts). The bootlegs were started for fun, are still fun, but after a while its just not as cool to keep doing something that isn't truly "yours."

I wish I could take better pictures or figure out how to capture him a bit better. He's clear blue with red pearl hair and accents.. and then silver and blue pearl over parts of the body. I'm gonna try to do a few more with the mix of clear/light pearl and see what happens.

i disagree. you have appropriated a mass-produced item and copied it yes. but by creating molds derived from these figures and casting them in resin individually and by hand, you've really made these figures express an intent that is CLEARLY beyond and above the intellectual/artistic intent of the original sculpt. by "bootlegging" these he-man figures, GJMB! is elevating their iconic status through involvement in the art-toy phenomena. obviously I'm a fan (and proud owner of a glowing skull heart "Memories of Good" Evil Dictator He-Man #10 of 10)

I can't wait to see more of your own sculptures, too. but don't stop making these please.

i dont want this to seem like i am jumping on you or anything like that - i actually think the concept behind these is cool and i would like to see the craftsmanship meet up with that

another problem with these figures i have noticed are the air bubbles. i own one of the memories of good figures and honestly i was very disappointed when i received it.

the small air bubbles in the clear resin is expected if you are not working with a pressure pot, and i can accept that, but there are some large flaws in the resin itself where large bubbles collect around the suspended items... and on my figure as well as on a couple of these pictured it seems, the large air bubbles have actually broken the surface and disfigured part of the figure itself. (mine for example has a big hole in his butt)

i debated ever saying anything about this, but i feel like i have been constructive and i just want to see these figures be what they can. i like that you are thinking out of the box and bringing a new theme to these toys

its cool and I appreciate it..
the suspensions in the memories provided more problems than they were worth at times.. the skelteors would collect air around them during the pour.. the weight in them (as well as the patchwork arm) gave the he-man def shelf diving status for a few of the figures... the release on the skeletor skulls also cause some of the imperfections even after several cleanings

I'm a little partial to a few of the "miscasts" that I've got around the house for their bubbles and "weirdness"..

you can get rid of the bubbles by pouring the resin in a very small stream from about 2 feet up. the narrower the stream is the less bubbles make it into the mold.

The bubble issue only really arose in the casts with numerous inclusions, which I'm not sure how to fix and haven't done anymore with more than one or 2 of the skeletor skulls after those. Wires.. screws.. one or two skulls no problems..
?

what u have to do is 'extend' those areas on your sculpt and then trim down the excess.I sometimes will glue on little plastic rods, then the air bubble gets forced into the 'extra ' area and trimmed away.

i sometimes experience similar problems. obviously the less viscous the the resin the less chance of bubbles. also putting vents in the moulds can help but that adds majorly to clean up. I think it just goes with the territory. Hand cast is not mass produced so each pour is unique. I think it's better to think of each piece as distinct more like an edition of prints than a factory production toy or a mass produced poster.

as you know. love your work :D. i would love to see you do something with man-at-arms... 8)

Cool.. I'll keep that in mind for original sculpts if I plan on inclusions..
The molds for the hemen have 2 vents and the merman have 4 which take care of the air bubble issue except for them collecting around the heads inside.

Thats how I look at it also. All of my figures I've made for myself, my le merde collection, etc... I don't purchase these looking for the same characteristics I look for in JP vinyl (we all know what western QC can be like lol), I like them for their unique nature and (when purchasing others works) knowing the amount of time and effort that goes into each as opposed to another one rolling off the assembly line.

evil lyn was way hotter than Teela..
The girls just didn't seem to lend them self to casting..
He men didn't stand that great on their own to begin with.. the women.. well their legs didn't even support their weight.
As for orko... if you can come up with a way to make him rip cord action :)

i think hand cast stuff is way more awesome than factory janks. my first le merde had air bubbles and even a scuff on the surface, it just adds way more character to me. whoo! i want one of the he men too. i just love seeing hand made stuff round these parts.
