question for you customisers......

if i give a painted fig an acetone bath,,,does it dull the original colour of the figure or leave any traces?

My personal experience w/acetone and translucent vinyl....if left on too long (or in my case, IN), it will dull or "fog" the vinyl and make it..."rubbery".

i am looking to give a painted GID and painted black fig a bath...luckily nothing translucent...i am looking to simply make them unpaint versions..

although i worry about the acetone dulling the black fig in particular...losing its shine

do you think painting on the acetone and removing it as quickly as possible would lessen any chances of dulling?? as opposed to bathing the fig...

I think that part of the reason that acetone is capable of removing solvent-heavy paints like those used on our toys (as opposed to, say, rubbing alcohol, which will strip acrylic paint just fine but can't put the slightest dent in V-Color) is its own strong solvent power- you are actually eating into the outermost layer of your toy as you rub the paint off. Leave it on too long, rub too hard and you will lose luster and even sculptural detail, after a while. Use it just long enough, just sparingly enough to get the paint off, then give the toy a quick warm water and dish detergent bath.
