Post learnin me some airbrush - how to clean between colors?
messing around trying to get the hang of it... but my question is about cleaning it. i have cleaner that i sprayed through it, but it doesnt seem to get it all

how do i clean out the paint at the very bottom of the little gravity cup and the part around the needle where the paint sprays out

it should have come with a little brush. you can just submerge the entire airbrush in theinner, let it sit a while then run air through it as well.

what's the best way to do it between colors? i cleaned out the cup pretty well, but i intentionally ran yellow through it after black to see how much black was left

quite a bit gathers around the nozzle where the needle comes out. is there a way to clean this quickly between color changes? or do i basically have to take the brush apart and scrub it between all colors?

what kind of airbrush do you have. you shouldn't have paint accumulating at the tip. Something sounds wrong like the needle tip is bent or something.
Best way is to let little amounts of cleaner through till the color is gone.
If you do this and make sure all the color is out in between changes, you shouldn't have problems. Also helpful to spray WD40 after using the airbrush as this keeps everything smooth and lubricated for the next session.

the paint collects a little around the lip there. the thing is brand new, so i don't think there is anything wrong with it. maybe i am doing something wrong as a spray? so i need to clean off the end between colors as well as swab out the inside of the cup?

Hey,
I got the same one... Did you buy the kit that comes with the DVDs? They have some tricks. The one guy puts a bit of the cleaner in the cup and then just blows it through into a rag. (don't breath in)
He also uses a q-tip, but the book says not to....
Also, if you take the back part off you can loosen the needle. He would pull the needle back gently when there is cleaner in the cup. He would move it back and forth a bit and it gets quite clean.
All these things work for me. I was surprised at how long it takes to get clean, but I'm finding I'm getting faster at it.

yep i got that kit too

i'll try loosening the back. as it was, i was taking the wrench and removing the front nozzle and taking a qtip to it

i guess i am spoiled by oil painting. when i wanted a new color i just pull out a nice clean brush and drop the other one in a jar of turpenoid

Ya, It's taking me a bit of getting used to how long it takes to clean. I think it depends on the kind of paint you are using as well. If you are painting a wolf on someones jacket , I think that paint dries slower and is easier to clean.
careful taking a wrench to anything on it though. I was warned to only hand loosen and tighten anything on the brush. Especially the back part, lots of little things that could get bent in there.
