I think the white skull on the chest ruins it... sorry...

Re: My Mutant Chaos is pulsating!
hey man, good job for an early custom. I like a lot of the colors. I don't object to the idea of putting some sort of skull "badge" on the chest of the chaos. it seems pretty natural. however your design would benefit from more definition there. your airbrush work is pretty clean, but the handpaint part looks a little crude. all in all, a good effort. paint on

I like it, but I agree that the skull distracts from the overall paint scheme. Keep up the good work!

So if I brush up a small logo or something it will (not always mind you) usually work w/ the rest of the execution. I think you might consider consistency of style. W/ a little searching you can dig some of the dude's work who are successfully using masks and frisket (sp)? Perhaps consider hitting a "clean" aesthetic through-out?

Re: My Mutant Chaos is pulsating!
Thanks for all of the input people! I am fairly new to customizing vinyl, and the mutant was a first for adding my own small detail (the Skull). As was the major color separation and detail for a kaiju figure.
I should have included a little back-story...the skull was meant to be something like a soldier would hand paint on his armor, the seven little lines above the skull are to represent his confirmed kills...and as a nod to Super7.
Back story aside...if it doesn't work...it doesn't work.
I have about 12 other customs I've done posted on my flickr... I've only posted the Gargantuas here on SB before...which were met with positive remarks all around. I think I just departed too much from my usual style...I've been really busy and stressed lately and I think this guy reflects my state of mind...the paint scheme is just too busy and the skull was unnecessary.
Thanks again everyone for the positive reinforcement...you're a great bunch of people and I have major respect for many of you as artists and definitely welcome your criticisms...good or bad.

Re: My Mutant Chaos is pulsating!
Ok I was going to post this last night, but the freaking internet went down: Hey RY- I'll be honest, to me, the custom is alright, I'm not a fan of the skull much either, I think it distracts from the rest of the custom and it seems tacked on. If its painted with V-color I can understand, its a pain in the ass to work fine detail with a brush and that stuff. If its acrylic or something else, I think it could use some refinement. Otherwise though its a metallic rainbow colored chaos, which has been done before. Nothing stands out about it, nothing that made me stop and say wow. Technically, the color choice seems kind of random and a little too busy, and some of the spray seems a little sloppy (particularly on the head) while other spots have more intentional overspray. All this being said, I've only painted one RxH piece myself and it was a Chaos too and I had a hell of a time figuring it out. I'm still not sure I did. =) Also, I know you've painted before, and specifically you've done more traditional Kaiju and knocked it out of the park. Some of my favorites are: So your first foray into Fight Figures wasn't stellar. No biggy. If you like it, thats fine, go out and get another and work on it, or strip the chaos and go back to work. Incidentally, I think I might've been subconsciously channeling this guy when I painted my shiny Cerulean Rangeas:

Re: My Mutant Chaos is pulsating!
Well...I think you nailed it hellopike...kinda poor rainbow chaos with a crap skull painted on it Oh well...I'm still blaming it on my state of mind at the time. There is just so much going on with this sculpt too, I was trying to separate and make sense of all his parts...when I just needed to let myself go and and have a clearer picture in my head of what I wanted to do with him. Usually I'll set the kaiju I'm going to paint out in the living room where I can see it for a few days...just to study it and get a real idea of the direction I want to go. All I decided on this guy was that a skull might be cool, and started slapping on paint. Thanks for posting some of my other stuff...I think I'll stick to the more traditional Kaiju, as that's what I really like and mainly collect. In fact...right now I am painting a Keronia...this one is inspired by Elvis Presley

This was the same roadblock I faced when I painted a chaos. I just googled the name, and I recognize the monster now, he's definitely cool, I like the suited versions of that guy. I wouldn't totally rule out fight figures, or new kaiju if you enjoy yourself. Keep your horizons open, right? I'm just now starting to appreciate the more traditional type monsters. I've got my favorites now, and I'm finding more and more that I like everytime I log on here, or surf the web. phil

Your paints just get better and better I agree the skull isnt my thing, but either than that the color is bright and just right. Chaos is a tough sculpt to paint.
