Post Re: My first Figure sculpt (General Kyoufu) PICTURE HEAVEY
I like it. I believe the bridge of the nose is protruding a bit too much, the sores on the hairy arm somehow don't seem to belong and the uniform & hat need a lot more sharpness and detail, but I think it's very promising!

Post Re: My first Figure sculpt (General Kyoufu) PICTURE HEAVEY
looks like u have some talent doing it. looking good to me!!! :D

i was thinking about trying it too, but as "i can´t draw",
was wondering is there a definite connection between painting & sculpting??? :D
if so could save money for toys before buying a modelling kit.

oolong pickle?

I really like this sculpt. Its an interesting character. I can't tell if the arm has sores or eyeballs. Either way they could be great or they could be distracting on the figure, probably depends on how they're painted. I have the same criticism about the hat, needs more detail. I don't know why, but it just seems like the hat should be more military precise in texture. It looks a little unsmooth on the front. Also, the right hoof needs a little more definition too.
That's my constructive criticism.

All in all, it has a lot of appeal I think. Good work and show more.

i dig it... i'd also keep the nose (gives it more character IMO). i think it would look cooler if he had a wider stance and more detail on the jacket and hat (which i'm assuming you're working on). looking forward to more progress shots!

Hey! Your sculpt is really good! The head is tight, nicely done.

*The art school I FART A LOT in me has some constructive suggestions though, take em with a grain of salt. What I learned through a teacher talking about some figure drawing or portrait I did years ago, was that all my focus was on the face. Naturally, thats where most people start, & its where you put in the most work to capture the person/character etc. But then it was pointed out that radiating out from the face, everything on the drawing became more vague, until the feet & hands were just sort of implied, were really vague. I see some of that going on in your sculpt. Like theres a lot of hyper-attention in the skull-head, which is awesome. But the suit, & then finally the feet, are left a little unattended. Like the warts & boils on the arm could be even more grotesque to match the detail in the skull. Whatever, maybe you get what Im saying. I want to do some sculpting for the 1st time in a LONG time since getting into kaiju, so I give you major props for getting it done and posting it for feedback. Keep it up!

*Kick my ass off the board if this is too much bullshit.

First off, how big is he?
He looks quite hefty.
He has a RxH Mikazuki Joe feel to him.
I like the uniform look, nice coat and cap.
Can't wait to see more updates.

It stands 5 1/2 inches, i guess you could say "fight figure size" compared to RxH about the same size, but my figure is wider, compared to OJO, OJO is bigger and just as wide.

Cool, what material are you using? If it's like sculpey or something similar, what I discovered recently and goes lightning fast. When you're sanding, get some fine steel wool like 000 or 0000 grade and sand with it, It goes so quick and gets it to that smooth vinyl consistancy. If you're serious about doing vinyl in the future, you may want to look at how you'd chop the arms make sure they're going to work articulated. Just looking at how the arms are falling now, you may run into some problems, better to take care of that type of stuff sooner rather than later.

I like this piece. It has a very cool feel to it. I would agree with others keep in mind to seperate arms ,etc in the case that you have it done in vinyl. Im curious as to the sculpting material as well. I have tried a couple but nothing seems to produce a quality result. Thanks for showing this !!!

thank you for the info i will look into the steel wool. You are correct about the material, As for the arms im still trying to work on that problem, i had no idea on how much work goes into sculpting, there a lot to learn, and believe me im learning.

Thank you, your words mean alot, you probably dont remember but i met you at SDCC on the first day (thursday), i was talking to you about your craft/skills, but then again i know u talked to a TON of people that weekend, any how i use Sculpey, its ok to work with, the only thing i dont like about it is it gets too soft if you sculp in the same spot for too long, or if ur molding something for too long.

Really nice work. A bit too military for my tastes but hey that's just me.

Some advice about resin casting: Bascially with a figure like this your gonna have to make at least a two part mould. That means if you wanna make it easier on yourself you should consider where seams might be. You have to think about fluid dynamics a bit too, for example if you have "undercuts" in the sculpt you'll need vents in the mould. Where you pour from? etc.

There are plenty of good mould making tutes on the web, keyword "silicon" might help.

Or you could have someone mould and cast for you but I've found that sculpting, moulding and casting your own figs can be very rewarding (following through the whole process).

Good luck. If you have any specific questions about processes feel free to PM me. Although I am in Australia so materials wise a local who's into it might be more useful.
