got on a roll this weekend, so i knocked out two freshly ruined toys. still trying out some new paints/techniques, but i feel like i'm
starting to develop at least the beginning of a style... =p
and never fear, blake... i have a few more "realistic" versions planned.

I like these both a lot. The bloody tooth drip is a nice detail. Are you doing those fades with a brush?

most of the large area paint coverage is done with an airbrush, and i'll come back in with a manual brush afterwards.
steven's back was sprayed, then i went back with a fan brush and tried to develop a more "hairy" look. (ended up with too much
paint on the brush, so it didn't come out quite the way i'd hoped. didn't mess things up too badly, though... i still like the effect.)

I am normally a fan of really clean paint jobs. ie, I love the sloth n moth
Very much.
I think your one of the first I have seen to pAint it realistically .
With that said...... I am trying to include a lot of detailed brush work into my pieces.
So the blue Steven with fish scale...... I like that one as well.
These look great:)
Ohhh the green Steven is kick ass as well
Good pic too. Shows how sun light really pics up all the colors. Where artificial light
Mutes the colors( unless your a professional photographer, with fancy flashes and what nots)

painted this guy up a couple weeks ago, but ran off to get married and then went on a week-long honeymoon, so i'm just now
getting around to posting the pictures of him.

Cool! Obviously some of my favorite colours there... You've kind of made Dino Killers.

the steven is great man. love the colors and fades.
Mon Nov 26, 2012 9:52 am
That Smash Face is great too! Reminds me of what I wish the Odoron looked like.
Mon Nov 26, 2012 12:40 pm
^ Buy a cheap Odoron and have Chris paint it up for you.
The fades on the Steven and the last Hedo are really nice. The Satin finish is working nice on some of these too.

thanks guys! i've discovered that a matte coat is very forgiving, especially when it comes to fades. =)
there's also a bit of
iridescence to these guys (minus the camo) that i've been experimenting with. the hedo torch just has a bit of
orange interference on the hands and feet, the "bumble" smash-face has a light cover of blue interference all over, and the steven
changes from orange to red to violet interference from bottom to top.

MOAR! =p
tried to play with the texture on the zags... not sure if it's exactly what i was hoping for, but still pretty pleased with the results.

wow you killed it on the globby and the drunk seijin. the gradients are really well done.
Mon Dec 10, 2012 9:27 am
Love that Drunk Seijin!
Mon Dec 10, 2012 10:05 am
Just noticed that you have a subtle eye thing going, but did a noser on the Globby. Keepin it fresh man!
Mon Dec 10, 2012 11:32 am
good catch, blake! yeah, i wasn't quite as happy with the eye treatment on the sloth... i think it has to do with highly spherical shape of
the eyes. so when globby came around, i wanted to try to keep the same sort of element without getting the same weird eye feeling.
Mon Dec 10, 2012 3:18 pm
Thats some really nice work on the Globby!

did a lot of painting over the holidays, and here's the first batch of it. also decided to rework the format of the updates... from now i'll just
be adding instagrammy pics in the thread, as well as adding a thumbnail to the first post. you can always see the lightboxed shots and
other angles of each custom in my
flickr customs set.
(and i'll add the set link with each new update, so it's easy to find...)
