Glitter Skullwing set! Thought I'd try my hand at some custom figures not bad for my first go-round I think.

Yeah I felt like throwing glitter at something but it was too early to start decorating pinecones for Christmas.

I don't know were the hate is coming from I think these are fun and really well done(all the lines look sharp), albeit there is an air of amusement I chuckled too and I have to add when hiddy did the skullheads (madball style) with diamond eyes and grills everyone died for them

i thought the same thing exactly.

even though this is covered in glitter, if these were clear coated so it didnt feel like sandpaper and the bits never fell off (and i collected skullwings) these would be a cool addition. everything is really cleanly done and the results dont look half as bad as some of the junk claiming to be a custom around here.

It's not the glitter. This is a tired argument but it's the fact that two perfectly good Skullwings are now ruined. Which makes two less in an already limited market.

I mean, they are his toys so I guess he's entitled to do whatever he wants. But personally I don't condone "customizing" any toy no matter how good or "cool" you are unless you had a hand in the design, are directly linked to the company, or were commissioned to do so by the owner of the company or design. Secret Base has several "blank" designs for customizing purposes as do tons of other companies. Skullwings are not one of those designs.

I had enough sense not to draw on my toys as a child and I guess I just carried that over as an adult.

Post Re: My first customs
Couple of things to clarify:
I used microfine glitter and clear coated them, so they actually feel really smooth and nice. Also, when I started colecting a friend (from whom I bought several toys) threw in a couple of blanks cheap which he had gotten for himself but never got around to doing anything with. I don't know what they were to start with, and didn't think to ask. However seeing as they were already stripped I didn't see any harm in having some fun with them. Didn't mean to worry anyone with whether or not I was soaking toys in chemicals and laughing maniacally (though the latter IS something I tend to do).

I'm digging it. Have fun with your toys! If its playing with them, putting them behind a glass to stare at, painting them, doing the funky chicken dance with them. As long as you are having fun!

You can do whatever you want with your toys but those are terrible. Two skullwings ruined. The glitter looks terrible. Color choice bad. The list goes on.

I've seen people do custom wings and they've turned out great. Hellopike, Pk etc come to mind.
But these are just a mockery. What a waste of a good toy.

I do wholeheartedly agree, (though he said "they were already stripped", "blanks" when he got them) they are pretty tacky, though eckotyper has the most significant insight.

OR some actual releases!

Have ya named em yet, Kapnobatai? The "Tiffany" edition's a fun suggestion. Whatcha think?

NOT a stab!; You like what ya like & I like what I like. Know who's correct? Whoever likes it! If something wasn't made because someone didn't like it, well, nothing would exist ;)

Oh, & super nice work w' the application! Those are some damn clean lines (from the size I can see on here anyway). Ha, how long did this take you exactly?

"Tiffany Edition", I like that! I had a craft night with my friends a couple months back, and did the first one then. Most of the time is drying time so I only probably worked a couple of hours on the base coats of paint and then doing the top layer for both of them. I wonder what kind of reaction I'd have gotten if I just painted them :p I thought about doing microbeads or something like that or a flocked one. I like textures and have the rare opportunity of trying things guilt free with one of my favorite figures. I wish they made blank Eyezons I love those guys!

That's pretty sweet. Tiffany is a bit too refined anyway they need something that says "kitsch & camp". Camp Kitschawa edition?

As if this wasn't already annoying enough, you don't even know anything about the toys you're ruining.

You're absolutely right. I don't know everything about these toys, nor do I claim to. I don't own every color way, I don't monitor new developments closely, I don't go to Comicon and meet the artists or get the exclusives (much as I would like to). I also don't go around claiming to hate customs but mysteriously pay attention to what goes on in the customs section, nor do I tell others that the things they make or like aren't good enough. You are more than entitled to your opinion, and I concede to your greater knowledge on the subject of what's out there, but I'm not going to change my mind on what I like any more than you are. Cliche as it is let's agree to disagree.

I kinda like these and the criticism is ripe with hypocrisy. You customize some Kidrobot toy and you're a douche. You customize some Kaiju toy and you get shit on. Lame all around. If you don't like the custom, fine. I get that, but crapping on the guy or gal because they chose a platform you deem sacred is just retarded. Bwana destroyed a slew of Buta figures a ways back, but that's ok. Kozik has been destroying pieces of plastic & vinyl for years, but it's Frank so it's ok. Whatever... Just super lame.

I say you tackle some S7 releases. They have zero redeeming qualities to them, so you can only make them look better. Uh-oh, did I just piss on the sacred cow

A few have made very good points already. A mockery?! I disagree. The best customs I've ever seen? Not by a long shot. Are they fun and slightly different? Yes. Are they yours to do with? Hell yes. Have fun with them and ignore these crotchety know-it-alls. Or just torch em' on the BBQ as that seems to be deemed a-o-fuckin' k!

Wait...are those SB toys really super rare because some dude sent me a skullbrain once and I just tossed it in a box. He said it was some rare part of an unpainted two pack.
I should give that thing away then.
