I am relaxed. Tongue-in-cheek is very hard to translate to the keyboard, though.

I can't, but that kind of behavior is what I always associate you with. If I'm mistaken, sorry, but there has to be a reason for why I think about you that way.

This was definitely not me. Anyone who knows me will tell you I don't collect Balzac items or anything like it.

I have been on the internet since 1989 and seen many communities start and end, flounder and flourish. Super7 is growing, because toy collecting is growing. As a result, the Skullbrain board will keep growing. I have a feeling that the majority of people who participate here will want it to be an open community rather than an elitist club. The elitists are going to have to adapt or leave, because if they don't, eventually they're going to be marginalized.

Well as a total newcomer to the board, I'm going to chime in because I really appreciate Muton's response.

When I joined over here, yep..I was totally intimidated because I really didn't have a grasp on Japanese vinyl at all, and it seemed like everyone knew each other and were all a pretty tight community.

Then I noticed a post about new guys not posting, and I added a comment, and it's been a great experience ever since.

Quite honestly, this is the community that I have been looking for with this hobby. People are knowledgeable, you can ask questions (after doing a search through the board..which is totally reasonable), and I have picked up some great stuff on the B/S/T forum as well.

I'm really looking forward to hanging out over here more often, and going to the RFSO event in NYC. I've already made some friends over here, and hanging out with toy nerds is something I just don't have the opportunity to do at home.

Elitism? I don't get that feeling over here, more just an actual appreciation for the hobby. If you're new, hang out..say hello....and listen. You'll learn a ton from everyone here, and meet some very cool people in the process.

I agree wholeheartedly with Roger, Pigeon, Muton and others that have advocated an open, friendly atmosphere.

There is a small gang of pretty strident self-appointed "elitists" who seem to feel that they "own" the board and that they like the "right" stuff - they tend to make the board feel a little prickly and unwelcoming to anyone who might not share their viewpoint, their aesthetic values, or who isn't a member of the gang. Every playground has its bullies, I guess. And cliques don't do much for a welcoming environment.

On the whole, however, I have found that this is still a great place to get and share information, and there are some really fantastic people here that are genuinely friendly and helpful.

We need more thinking like Muton's around here to keep this a great place.

I agree with your original post muton. It's hard enough to explain to people around me the attraction to these fucked up objects, but to be criticised at a place where people seemingly understand my crazy tastes is a bit intimidating. For the most part though, all the interactions i've had on this board have been overwhelmingly positive. but what's the fun if everyone's a kiss ass? i was lurking for a long time, and one of the most enjoyable aspects of the board were the upfront and honest opinions.

by the way, if anyone has any skullbrains...GIMME GIMME GIMME!

so..... was my post, one of the posts that the initial complaint thread was directed at? Also, was my post one of the posts in the B/S/T thread that needed to be cleaned? If so, can someone please enlighten me on to what I wrote, that is at issue?

since nobody has specifically addressed members directly by name, I think a bunch of us newbies are sitting here wondering "is it me these complaints are directed at, and if so, what is that I wrote exactly, that is at issue?

I absolutely agree with Muton's statement. There's a couple thing that bug me hear, but nothing to concern myself over, it is an open forum.

Seems like a lot of unecessary agitation, Skullbrain always seems to find it's "center". I think I've only had beef with one member here (correct me if I'm wrong), but they know how I feel and vice-versa, it's all good.

I think we could all take a step back, take a breath and then get back to the fun. I think Isaac can use a break from the ( I ain't even going to say it). Kurt

I think ramos is only letting the BST threads get a couple weeks old before they are deleted. It does not have anyhitng to do with content of the thread.

I never got why you would be harshed for selling that, I figure you give us the opportunity instead of just throwing it up on ebay. I loved that thing, wish I would have scored it. Is it still around?

I think some people automatically assumed I purchased it at this years comic con, and therefore was an instant flipper. The fact of the matter is I bought it in July of 2005, and I only wanted to sell it because I recently purchased another Bwana custom. Anyways, I've decided to keep it for now.

My only sentiment about the Steven the Bat thing was that it was such a nice figure that it was kinda sad that anyone would part with it... I'm sure it'll go to a nice new home, but I doubt you'll ever have an opportunity to possess anything like it again...

edit: Oh, good... I'm glad you're keeping it! :D

Keep it. That is one of the nicest customs I've seen. I've got a custom coming from Bwana and hope it's half that nice.

I got the tuff love deal in the begining just like everyone else and I'm not mad. It taught me the "rules" here and after awhile I became part of the family. I made some good friends here and now pretty much only post my mindless ramblings here :)

It reminds me of fight club when they fist start up the group and tyler durgen tells the blond haired kid to fuck off your to BLONDE and so on.... :)

Its just a test to see if you can take it and if your really into this.

The people here are really very cool and accepting. They just want real collectors here, not the wack jobs looking to buy a toy they want for cheap and then be out or to flip something because they want to make a quick buck off us.

Once the new guys understand the way it is here they learn the become part of the family and pass it on and protect the little community here.

I mean its not really that bad. Just a little hazing :)

It keeps the fake people out.

Hey Lash, I liked your post. It was very honest, and raised some of the very issues I'm talking about. In fact way more than elitism (which I am kind of regretting using now, but we don't always phrase things perfectly), your post sums up some of the things that prompted me to put fingers to keyboard in the first place.

First off, I'm sorry u got tuff love when you first joined - it certainly wasn't from me, but I get the felling u didn't really mind it anyway, right? But not everyone is the same. From my perspective I would hate it if it became de rigeur. I left hazing behind at school - I'm an adult now, and I personally wouldn't want to be treated that way, and consequently I don't traet other people that way y'know.

Fight Club is a good analogy for the way I would hate things to be. ...anywhere. I'm not sure it keeps fake people out, just people who don't want to be in "Fight Club".

"Rules", what are the "Rules" here? The rest of my life is filled with rules, but here on Skullbrain, treat people with respect is the the only rule I can think of right now that I'd sign up for.

(Aside, and I think this is related, altho others may disagree; Always made me laugh how London punk in the mid 70's started out with the punks hanging out at gay and transvestite bars because thats the only places where they didn't get beaten up. Then when it exploded, the macho elemnt came to the fore and anyone remotely "artistic" would get teh crap kicked out of them, then the skins joined for Oi, and punk became survival of the fittest, and creativity went down the pan.)
