What's your take on Clap Your hands say yeah?

I loved the album. Saw them about a month ago and they were amazing. Renewed my love of live music.

+1. Seems to be the hot ticket in Brooklyn these days. Crazy stupid live.

The new YYY is good but it's definitely no "Fever to Tell". Can't believe they over-produced the new record.

Atease, have you listened to the solo Yorke yet? I love it but he could probably fart into a microphone and I'd dig it.

The new YYY is ok, definitely not Fever to Tell, but I saw them live a couple of months ago and the new stuff sounds so much better live.

Thom's new disc is ok. You're right, he could put just about anything on disc and people would buy it, but the new disc isn't my favorite.
It's nice to see him doing his own thing a bit, but some of it is just too repetitive for me. There's one song on there, the name of which escapes me, and it just repeats the same chorus over and over again to the point I hit the button to skip to the next track.

have you heard their new songs that they've been playing this summer? Some of them are really, really great (although I'm a bit biased I suppose)

Fulfilled the dream of being front row center for one of the shows here in Boston two months ago...:D

On YYY: The first single, name escapes me. A DJ on 103.1 played it back to back against an old Love and Rockets song - the similarities are UNBELIEVEABLE...in the arrangement as well as the song.

it's probably not Gold Lion, doesn't sound much like L&R to me..might be phenomena though.

i should dig out some Love and Rockets tonight, thanks for the good idea Muton :)

Its definitely Gold Lion - which sounds different from the rest of the CD ( I only played it once, didn't really dig it too much).

There's a remix of that song by Diplo that is really, really excellent as well (if you're into remixes/b sides at all). it sounds amazing at very high volume in my truck :)

I like your reviews Muton. honest but in a nice way. you should definitely review for some of those professional music rags. here's more food for the fodder:

1. Gnarls Barkley
2. Rainer Maria
3. Kasabian

What can I say? I love diversity.

1. I must be the only person who hasn't checked out GB. All the press I keep reading hgas put me off.
2. Rainer Maria - saw em live and I loved 'em. That singing type chick rocks super hard for an off kilter emo-ish front band person.
3. Kasabian 0- what Banky says is true, but I like some of their stuff too. They look like dicks tho, altho Serge has good hair. Good hair can make or break a band for me. They are mates with Oasis, and come off just like them. I might take more notice when one of em gets a chocolate roller from McGee. The hype on the upcoming album is already in warpdrive - NU-GLITTER...yes they are calling it Nu-Glitter.

I have slipped into the groove with GB. I like it. Not a normal fan, but it's a great bop along sound. Love the track about the monster under the bed!

Oi Banky, here's one u might hate:

Lily Allen
Everytime I listen to it I think of London. With the exception of one baggy-esque throw away, I love the whole thing. Summery sounds, that NME are bound to hate on in 3 months time.

Here's another London fave:

The Rakes.
Strasburg - 2 minute blistering buzzpop bomb.

22 grand job - totally sums up my working experienes in the City of London. Great stuff.

Oh, and string me up now, but I think the Darkness' over produced second album is an ELO/Queen lovers wet dream. Wish they'd come back over here and play again. Last time I got to play air bongos on Jim Jarmusch's head, and turn down a personal after party invite form Dave Grohl (no kidding).

I'm assuming Nu-Glitter isn't a reference to our paedo friend Gary?
Although the it wouldn't shock me about any of Kasbian. Arseholes that they are.

Lily Allen - sounds alright and on that basis I don't mind her. Problem is she's private school educated posh bird who then gets in a studio and gets all Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins. In interviews she speaks really well. Sure way to get my goat.
Although when asked how will you celebrate being Number 1 her answer was with a big pile of Coke. Which did make me laugh.

Rakes are cool as. I've just some bits a mate did on a compliation CD. What's the album like?

Others of interest maybe:

Jamie T - a song called Stella. I would never listen to this stuff normally, but this just got me hook, line and sinker.

Long Knives - Ripping up the radio at the moment. Expect big things.

As to Darkness, Justin's put on a lot of weight. He's now a skinny fat man. They're odd, I saw them after the first album and they were great fun. Proper cock rock stupidity. But he seems to have started taking himself seriously which could potentially destroy them for me.

My band every should see once whether you like them or not.
Polyphonic Spree.
Seen them 3 times and everytime I come away like I've been touched like god. No band can make you happier or clappier. It's like joining a cult for an evening.

I don't mind Lily being posh, atleast shes from a one parent family , and so earns cred points that way. Just the songs remind me of Larn-daan, know wot I mean? Actually, Kasabian's effected thuggishness bothers me more - the whole new lad thing in the mid 90's irked me to. I remember seeing Suede one time, and the whole audience suddenly changed, it was all lads shoving u and spilling beer all over u. Oasis had some great somngs, but a lot to answer for...mind u, so did Blur and Phil Daniels I suppose.

Anyway, the Rakes seem laddish, but sing about that with an outsider gaze. The whole album is great. Get it!

I'm so sorry Justin is now fat. I saw em do an instore at HMV on Oxford steet, and later on their second jaunt to LA in support of the first album. The second album still has some hilarious lyrical content, but if Justin is taking himself too seriously it wouldn't work. Man, sounds like I may have seen em at their best. They never came back to play here since, and the shows sold out in seconds too.

Polyphonic Spree on record leave me cold. I used to love the band they came out of, had an album called Elastic Frecrackere, and I saw em at Dingwalls last...but can't remember the name due to age. I guess I'd have to see em live to make a truly informed comment.

Y'know who I really want to see sometime? Joan Jett, that's who. I saw her once with some ex-Ramones doing Ramnones songs, but I want to see her on her own in a little club. SO there.

Saw Riverboat Gamblers with Rollins Band and X last week. RG were great - pretty out of control but tight. I'd love to see 'em in a small club. X were amazing, too, pretty much like I remember 'em being back in '81. Rollins Band, on the other hand . . . geez, give it up. The fake angst/tough guy thing is really old. And they played for fucking EVER.

Oh, and I saw Joan Jett at the Warped Tour thing and she was fuckin' amazing. Completely hot, too - she still looks like she's 20 yrs old, and she did "Cherry Bomb" by the Runaways, which I never thought I'd see her do.

Yeah I'm looking forward to seeing RG, and I've never seen X before so that should be good as well. I caught John Doe a couple of years back doing his solo thing and he was great.

The Rollins Band is a bit overdone at this point. I've seen them three times, the last of which was around 94 as I recall. They opened for the Beasties and tore it up. But yeah..he's just getting too old and Hollywood to be playing that role anymore.

Darkness have been dropped accroding the gossip email Popbitch and Justin booked into the Priory. So not looking good all in all.

And I know what you mean about Miss Allen. It's just the being posh, then signing cor blimey. 'messed up me mental elf' just gets my goat. She's funny though. nice to have some rock 'n roll bitching back.

Give the Spree a go live though. The albums are rubbish and I'm a big fan

Thanks for the info. I looked it up, and saw that the show is at the Henry Fonda aka MusicBox - nice venue, not tiny tho.

Who's up for going? Rick?

Also check out Joan's site - has a GREAT video for a song I'm guessing is called AC/DC - sample lyric " She's AC DC, she's seeing someone else as well as me". AWESOME!

Yeah, that "AC/DC" song is a cover - originally done by a band called The Sweet (Ballroom Blitz, remember that?) First rock concert I ever went to, coincidentally.

UR kidding! The Sweet along with Slade were two of my favorite bands when I was about 6 or 7 yrs old. No kidding. I finally saw them, well the Brian Connelly version, play at my college in the early 80's when they had a resurgence due to goth clubs playing them.

Wow, Sweet - awesome.

Hey Rick, I'll make sure to get some tix then - they don't seem to be on sale yet.
