What's Up In LA and SoCal!

Sun Dec 30, 2007 11:47 am

In the spirit of board changes, and new forums, I just want to ask everyone in teh SoCal area to feel free to post about events, pics and more kaiju leaning toy related stories in the region.

One thing I used to do more of was post about local art events, crap patries I didn't get into and shows. Lately its been harder and harder for me to find time to get to some of these events - and since my crap party stories, no one invites me any more - (altho I still have a ton of pics fomr the Simpsons Vans Release Party back in July) - so things going on in the LA area, or farther afield like San Diego - post about them here! Let's let everyone know about WHAT's UP in LA and SoCAL!

Also, look out for post about LASK organised events. Social secretary Pete (aka Turtlegod) just posted about a LASK breakfast on 12/31 - check it out! LASK have plans for more fun throughout the year!

Cheers!

and a quick PS. Muton's Minute is a no BS zone - let's keep it on a positive tip!

Pete unfortunately gets stuck with the LASK secretary duties because the rest of us are completely retarded and unorganized.

Ooo, Neckface.

Fri Jan 04, 2008 8:06 pm

I don't get Neckface. He draws violent pics which are OK on teh back of a school book, and maybe even cool on a jacket...but not sure about 2K for a watercolor.

He does have teh capability to get extremely wasted as only an ex-straight edger can - and thats a talent we can all truly appreciate.

Any of you dudes go to this? As a mega-nerd of all sorts I love a lot of the pieces (no I didn't go, I'm in a part of the country that doesn't have it's own section) but damn........why so much Wolverine? Stan didn't create him, and there were so many. I thought it was kinda lame, like "hey I'm gonna be in a tribute to some Marvel comics guy, he probably made Wolverine, that's a hot character right? I'll do that."

Anyway, just got done looking/oogling all over the pics and wanted to know if anyone here went and drooled on Stan Lee?

muton and I were there, did'nt see any other skullbrainers there, but it was cool.I didnt really get a chance to spend a lot of time looking at everything since it was very packed with people, but i noticed a lot of peoples paintings are starting to look like craola's stuff.a few good pieces and a lot of ok stuff. It was a nice event, and it was nice to meet carl.

 Totally agree with the above. I thought there was a few Craola wannabees and commented hat to someone - didn't go down too well. Like u said, a few good pieces - and lots of OK stuff. one of our own board members l Maz had a piece in there. My favorites were the pieces by Rueben Rude, Kii Aarens and a couple of others - I took some pics I'll put up. Got to see Stan Lee's head, but only the top of it.

Best part of the evening? Hanging out with Ribbon Controller and his buddy - had a laugh and a free glass of Dewar's - can't be bad!

So, who is going along to the Vivisect Playset opening tomorrow (Saturday) at Gallery1988 (ignore the lower images, I just stole the entire future line-up image)

Fri Jan 25, 2008 6:18 pm

:( no release party here in G1988 SF for Vivisect :(
At least we'll have a cool show up here with Camilla d'Errico, Amy Sol and others...and then Kathie Olivas in late Feb.

Fri Jan 25, 2008 10:02 pm

One reason I am stoked on this is because one of teh toys is a Jled "King of teh Dead Beets" - which I own teh original painting of - so suddenly finding there is a toy of it has me pretty excited!
