That's all good to read. Maybe someone had an epiphany of common sense

If the raffles are not done for specific shows, then you would have flippers and their ilk
waiting at the door and/or constantly asking for prices and when they can start buying
stuff up. The raffles have been the best way of keeping them from buying everything up.
It might not keep flippers 100% from getting stuff, but it works to a certain degree.

I was misunderstood here so I want to restate it a little more clearly.

I think raffles are the best alternative we have. I've lost a few and been second to last in line with raffles but I still think its the fairest deal. Of course if you drive in for a show from another city and your willing to camp out for your favorite artist its going to hurt a lot to loose a raffle but what else can be done? Great artists have limited supplies for growing amounts of fans. If someone else is just as much of a fan but has to work on opening day and its line tickets then that person looses out just to pay bills. Back to raffles being fairest.

Of course raffles arent necessary for less popular (by no means less great) artists. If people trickle in then it doesn't matter so much compared to an artist that causes a line down the block by 5pm.

One thing I think would make it even more fair is if store employees also have to be in the raffle. No pre-buying just because one works at the gallery (whatever gallery) or else it destroys the idea of a raffle and it might as well be first come first serve again.

Sometime it will make more sense for raffles than others. Like at designercon where even if your first in line once you get in 20 people are already in line because they helped some friend by carrying in boxes and therefor didn't have to sit in line since 3am.

I guess the only true alternative is just to commission a piece every now and again.

I hope that makes more sense than I did before.

Anyone else make it to (either) of the Danny Elfman shows on Halloween or yesterday evening?

I have never been a fan of Boingo, nor a devout of all things Burton, but I did make the show last night and gotta say it was a lot of fun. It's my understanding that Elfman's performance has been his only since the bands farewell back in 1995/96 on Halloween. Seeing him perform pieces from The Nightmare Before Xmas was very special and again, I am not a fanatical fan of the film. Was also cool to have Catherine O'Hara perform as well.

^^^ Did you ever see OB live? They were quite the party band. Super high fun energy. Good balance in the early 80's to hard core shows.

No, I never did. Again, they were never my cup o' tea. I am aware that they were quite the "party" band / show. Still, I would have to endure their music. The first concert I ever attended was KISS and that's kinda' hard to beat in the way of a live show...

My wife attended the one performance they did for a local Catholic private school (St. John Bosco). That is pretty amusing to me.

not happening!

Also I realized my reply indicated i might be "in" as in "going to the show" - but what i meant was I'm in as in "staying in with Colin". No DMTITs and/or PCP for us.

FUCK, Mayhem was punishing last night... I think my head is still rattling from the concussion I endured. Not overly loud or anything of that nature, but just an onslaught of rhythm blasts that was just onerous, relentless. Skipped Revenge, though I wanted to see them. Am a big fan of Angelcorpse, so... Was just running late. Watain was... was actually the band I most wanted to go and see. But boy, are they silly. The pirate skeletons on the crosses were utterly ridiculous as was the between song banter. I guess it might appeal to the average disenfranchised 13 year old male. Lots of posturing, both on stage and amongst the crowd. I'm glad to be older now. After the band cleared the stage, I don't understand the five minute lingering of Erik Danielsson other than his theatrical homage to some silly Satanic worshiping nonsense... Me guesses. Would I go see them again. Yes. Entertaining indeed

Anyone else make it (to any of the North American shows)?
