Hedwig in not sexy shock, plus Mickey Herpes strikes again..
nnnnnnghhnnnnnnnnnnnn
So, last night I finally get to the Roxy to see the last night of Hedwig and the angry Inch.
Disappointment #1 is that the standing tix I get lumbered with are standing at the back, I imagined the standing woul be in the pit and seating on the raised area above - WRONG!
Disappointment #2 is that altho DOnovan Leitch (playing Hedwig) is a great singer and performer, he doesn't have "drag queen" down, and so for the most part looks like a man in a Hedwig suit, and only becomes fully believeable in the climax when he performs sans outfit.
Disappointment #3 is that we are forced to buy drink tix to come in, so the show + drinx comes to $50 - drinks are weak for sure, as I don't drink often, and two cocktails give me nary a buzz!!!
Disappointment #4 is getting into it with pushy lesbian during my favorite song. Why is it that some people can disappear from their "spot" for like half an hour, then come back when they got bored or coked, and shove u out of the way and say -"U r stood in my spot"? Like the floor is marked for them...nnnnnuuurrrggggggggh
Bottom line: show is OK, but with no set changes, crap view and disco drinx, I feel ripped for $50, and anyone who saw this in NY or on its proper LA visit, or the movie, should feel this was only OK.
On a side note, I recognise and speak to a guy from Choirboys (90's post DOgs D'amour London sleaze rock band) and NancyBoy (Leitch's rather good new wavey vehicle) who I saw lurking in the Mickey Avalon debaucho-line. So there I go on about Mickey Herpes. and the outrage of it all...and he's like: "he's my friend, we played on the same bill that night" - ulp! But then he invites me to the aftershow which is cool, and I say yep I'll be there, but of course I won't be because it's LA and I have to be up early for work, and I don't like feelinf f##ked the next day..blah....
still, that doesn't stop me checking Yahoo Japan does it?
Tune in tomorrow for: 'brain crew hit LA nite spots and go to bed by 10:30 horror story!

I saw a Hedwig show in Dallas a couple years ago. No set changes, but the guy (don't remember his name) fucking NAILED hedwig - he was almost as good as the original. Great show.

Rick Hammerly was Hedwig in Signature Theater's production in DC two years ago and was spot on as well. Fave song - "Sugar Daddy" or "Wig in a Box".

Mine too.
It was a weird production coz the backing band were local rock guys, but I think the Hedwig dude was from OOT.
