Kris Lewis - Upon the Drift of Violet @ Copronason
Last Saturday I finally got the chance to meet one of my favorite artists - Kris Lewis. I'm really not sure how well known he is, but just over a year ago I turned up early for a Copronason group show at LA's Bergamot Station. Amongst the art, including poeple like Jled, Luke Cheuh and Tim Biskup were three paintings by this guy. One in particular struck me as amazing, but it was priced high - and I'd never heard of the guy. Considering it was yet another credit card hit, and I didn't intend to buy anything that day, it was a surprise when after some haggling I walked away with an amazing painting which I see every day above my fireplace, and LOVE.
So a year later I get to meet him, all the way from Philadelphia - and he is a super nice guy who seemed as genuinely excited to meet me (I guess I bought one of his first West Coast show paintings?) as I was to meet him.
His art, IMO, has a deft classical touch with surrealistic elements added to throw further light on the subject. I simply love the way he paints women. Check out the pics below and let me know what you think.

Based on the fact that five of Kris' seven paintings were sold before the show even opened, and the pleasing comments I heard during the evening, I think Kris is going places. I spotted Greg "Craola" Simpkins and female friend checking out the paintings as well, and looking suitably impressed.
This is my favorite painting from last year, Heart of Glass and Gold:

Carl, they are nice pieces. Love dreamy stuff, and much of the work you have showed has a dreamy nostalgia to them (I think anyway).
What was the piece you bought? The Heart of Glass and Gold one at the bottom?
If not, show us a pic.

Yep, that is the one. It is so amazing in the flesh. Kris gave me some background on the character of the person he painted, which explains why her heart is made of glass and she is merging into the background.

Very nice work, thanks for turning the board onto him. I really like the style and subjects, and there is something a little magical about them. Love the art, keep it up.

That's a great piece Carl. Can definitely see how you could have walked out with that one for sure. I'm really liking the Rose Zephyr shots. Thanks for the various close ups of the painting.
Actually Rose Zephyr girl looks very much like local songstress Sarah Blasko:
Well to me she does anyway!

This guy's stuff is amazing! Thanks for the info. I need to go over and see the stuff, myself. I've been meaning to go over to Bergamot...they're about a mile away from my home. Beautiful paintings...
