Post Re: New Mook?
I think it's safe to say that all of us here, to a one, have experienced paying for something from an individual and never receiving it. It's fucking lame, there's no defense of it, no moral high ground to take. When a company does it- a company that continues to operate real and virtual storefronts, advertise and sell goods and, most galling, continues to steadily develop and release new product, it's even more lame. Someone in Super7's employ should have seen clear to step up on this issue and truly communicate to subscribers a long time ago. Super7 accepted $40 from each of us over 5 years ago for two volumes, has delivered one to date, and has NEVER issued an official word about it directly to subscribers. EDIT: Instead, we get a single sentence from Brian Flynn on 6/27/11:

Anyone wanting a refund is gladly refunded. Sorry, trust me, I want it out more than you do.

Wow- I wonder how the folks who ordered who aren't skullbrainers (or skullbrainers like me, who gave up on checking this thread years ago) are expected to get this information? And I wonder when exactly this offer became effective? Two years ago? Three? Was it publicized in any other fashion at all? On a handmade sign in the store? You see, without direct communication from Super7- which would be real customer service on a long overdue order- we just don't know, do we? END EDIT

The first mook is a slick, gorgeous product. Would I have paid $40 for it? Probably not; $30, maybe, and that brings me to another point: it was an act of good faith for us to plunk down $40 in support of the new format, sight unseen and with little to no preview of the content. We trusted in Super7 because of the high quality of the magazine, but still, we took a chance... and in return, we are getting shafted.

I boggle at what the rationale could be- are we expected to just be okay with it, because the powers that be at S7 think that we got our $40 worth with the existing mook? Are we truly expected to just wait however long it takes? I know that the production of the first one entailed more than S7 expected it would, and I respect and appreciate the palpable love and care that went into that volume. If only the same love and care went into their customer service on this one. It would have been great to receive an email saying, "Hey subscribers, we're so sorry for the wait! We'd like to present you with two options: you can continue to wait for the second mook, but please understand that we have no solid idea of when it will be released... OR we welcome you to take $__ off your next Super7 purchase." That would have been a very respectable move... three years ago.

Instead... we've seen throw pillows, tens of new toy releases, t-shirts, the highly trumpeted (and surely pricey) development of the Alien line, etc. I would truly love to just be happy for S7 and cheering them on (and I assure you that I used to) as they fight the good fight in our weird little corner of the art/collecting world. I can't do that though, to any degree, until this customer service failing is officially addressed and an attempt is made to do right by subscribers.

Post Re: New Mook?
Back when the second mook was in the planning stages, I talked with Super7 about contributing a couple of articles, and started work on them during my trips to Japan. After it was apparent to me that the issue was never going to come together, I stopped working on them. And I'm glad, because if my work was sitting in limbo for all this time, I'd be really pissed.

ungawa222 has written what is probably the most articulate and concise post regarding the absence of the mook so far here. Super7 took money for a product and never delivered it, nor have they ever indicated when it will be delivered. Where is the response?

On my part, not to bring this here in this way, I've never gotten a refund and have emailed the store about it a few times. Any S7 employees wanna help there?

Post Re: New Mook?
it's pretty sad that this thread is right here where s7 constantly posts new product, yet we never get a response

just a simple acknowledgment of the situation from time to time would be much better than silence

Agreed. Even "sorry folks, it's not going to happen" would be better than being teased every twelve months or so.

What's the latest, S7 peeps?

I don't have a horse in this race, just a thought. In the years since the Mook2 was proposed, the world and technology have changed. If the actual paper book is never going to see the light of day, would it not be a good idea to simply post the work done to this point online, or Email the articles, photos, lists whatever in PDF to those that paid so at least they get something? They idea of printing a paper version is becoming more and more dated each month anyway. Maybe admitting and accepting the fact that the original idea is not going to happen and making use of the work done to this point would end the debate. Or are we still going to be talking about this at year ten?

Being able to flip through a book/magazine is a completely different feeling for me, especially when it's full of photos. I'd rather have an incomplete paper version than a complete PDF version

Agreed agreed Agreed. Paper good, PDF bad. Most would want an actual physical copy (as would I) thats a given, no arguement there. But if the choice is you get some information, pictures, articles, checklists etc. in a digital format or you get years of promises and nothing else, what would you rather have? If its the latter than you've already got it, good for you.

I agree, the mook has taken far too long. It has sat at 2/3rds finished for a few years now. Factors well beyond our control have precluded us from releasing it, and one day, we will. It is a bummer to us all.

In the meantime, we will send out refunds to everyone who has a subscription. When the mook finally does come out, you can decide then if it is something you want to spend your money on. My hope, is that it will be. Until then, I just can't say when it will actually get released. We will start issuing refunds this week, and they should be in your hands in time for xmas (or just after depending on your postal situation).

Brian, I think a lot of us have moved since purchasing our subscription. Who should we contact to update our mailing addresses?

I appreciate the candid response and resolution. Hope to see the Mook 2 see release some day in the future.

Your timing sucks . . . even if you refund immediately I don't have the time for any cool new toys to be shipped before the end of the world!

And the statement is totally wrong imho.
Since I do not need to cram my shelves with the books I read no more (I get most of these digital nowadays) I find myself buying more and more picture books, graphic novels and stuff like this lately.
