 Another Gamera Question Was this auction legit, or not? It seems like an improbable item to bootleg, but then again it's from a $170+ LD boxed set... and he had NINE of them up for auction at once:

It's probably legit. I've seen these for sale separately before, but only once or twice. I'd guess they're broken up by people who only want the LD, or who don't have laserdisc players anymore and have turned the set into a second hand shop. If it was a boot they wouldn't be likely to have the insert paper.

... the auction's no longer available so I can't comment on this specific one but I did see some guy (from China) selling a bunch of them at one time about 8 months ago on eBay. By the time I got to the auction he had 3 left, I bought all 3 at the BIN price of $6.99 each. I asked him where he got them from and he simply said 'another dealer.' They look legit and are of Bandai HG standards with no flash and lots of deep rich detail. All the pieces fit like butter. Each figure even came with one of those HG inserts stating it was from a LD set.
All that being said I'm led to believe that perhaps these are NOT from actual LD box sets. Bandai probably made too many of these and a bunch never got packaged up into the final product. They sat around for awhile and then somehow got into the secondary market. Whether this is true and if so how many are floating around like this I don't know.

Well I can tell you that the LD that is selling on yahoo Japan is missing the figure and have seen on more than one occasion LD's missing the figure. another theory would be that some folks have bought the LD just for the figure and have sold them separately? Just a thought and glad I was able to snag two of them, they don't come around often I can tell you that.
