IIRC, each of the 'body parts' ones (brain, eye, neck, hand, lips, caterpillar-eye, plus probably others I'm forgetting) had two colorways. For this one, the orange is the 'chase,' the rarer color.

I saw this at about 3AM still FS at K-T, wish I'd known you wanted it. I traded much of my Rainbow from this series to Frank, so I wasn't up for this one at roughly $300.

There was a BIN on ebay for this same figure (orange brain guy) for $275 w/$10 shipping like a week back. It was up for a few days too.

for what seemed like a long time, there wasn't much interest in this brain demon - you almost couldn't give them away. Personally, I think this one is way, way over priced - I love these Rainbow "head" demon dudes but I passed when i saw it on KT last night because I think the price is crazy.

Did anyone else see what the blue hand demon recently went for on YJA? I think the second to last one to appear went for close to 100,000 yen while the most recent one went for, like, 90,000 yen (and I'm not talking about the handpainted variant but the less rare blue chase color) - to me that's just insane for a non-vintage toy.

Unless the coming japanese recession seriously adjusts the market for these things (which it might very well do) - I won't be adding these figures to my collection just based on principle (aside from the fact that I can't afford them anyway). There ARE limits, dude.

I don't understand why they don't bang out a few more color variants of all of them. Rainbow would make some money back on the molds at least, it's not like flipper money goes to the company.

People are willing to pay 50-70,000 yen for the Nogeruge?
Maybe, maybe for the Kuchibiruge (Lips Demon) or Hiyakumeruge (Eyes Demon).
Way overpriced for the Nogeruge.

I've heard this ugly rumor, but I gave it no credence ...

personally I find this to be my least favorite of all the demons released so far...I'm glad I don't want it because the prices are nuts.

i overpaid for a few of my Rainbow pieces...but it's starting to look like the market is levelling out...I've seen good prices on the most recent five or six pieces...so either they're making more, or all the people who want the demons are paying attention and buying them as they come out instead of waiting to be gouged by KT or someone else...

I can't wait for the Squid demon...should be out any time now...

As i recall, the earlier demons were pre-order only (i.e. they made as many as were ordered - I remembering ordering the 2 eyeball guys but passing on the mouth and hand demon that were on the same order form - what a mistake that was). It's a complete guess but i'm thinking maybe they made only 30 to 40 of the early demon dudes. A lot of people just didn't know about them back then and they weren't that popular at first (Toy Tokyo had the eyeball demon hanging in the store for the longest time before it sold. Even sellers on ebay couldn't give them away). But even when they were first released, I don't remember ever seeing many of the hand demons or mouth demons (maybe even less people ordered those from Rainbow initially so there are even fewer of those around today - the eyeball dude seems to be the most common of the early figures. The brain demon was in the next wave of releases and I also wasn't crazy about it so I passed)

Then, slowly but surely, the word got out on these and the prices started going crazy (I had a chance to buy the rare color variant of the mouth demon for 30,000 yen about 2 years ago but my japanese contact told me to pass because it was way, way too much - I'm guessing that one migght go for double now). In part this is probably due to people who came late to the table, bought all the later releases and then started searching for the early ones to complete their collection. Since the word has long been out on Rainbows, my hunch is that the new releases are ordered by collectors and dealers in much larger quantites (these things are still not common but my guess is that they're being produced in quantities of 60 to 80 - the later releases are starting to sit on YJA for months).

It's really only a few of the early releases that people are going after - the eye, hand and mouth demon - and especially the blue hand demon and the impossible to get hand-painted blue hand demon (limited to 10 or less - I've only seen it once on YJA a few years ago - no telling what that would go for now).

My hunch is that Rainbow can't crank out more of the early figures because they might have been made pursuant to a limited show license (i.e. they got permission from the owner of the character license to do a one time run of figures for a toy show). Otherwise, I agree, you'd think they's be cranking these things out like hotcakes.

So was retail on the initial demons in the $90-120 mark?

wow! I can't believe I saved this stuff! i looked through my old emails and I'd actually asked my japanese buyer about the blue hand demon when it was first released in September '03.

Here's what he said:

"To get the doll, you will have to pay other costs to be THN member.
So the total will 18,200Yen.
Of course, you can get other THN prizes."

Based on what i thought was a super-high cost, I passed (keep in mind no one was paying that much for new pieces at that time - not like today's market for Bemons, handpainted figures and Anraku stuff). Now the thing goes for $800 to $1000.00 and at that price, I'll never own one (of course, one was offered here about 6 months ago for about 1/2 that but i didn't have the money at the time).

As far as the other early demon dudes - i can't find those emails but I'm guessing they went for around 8000 to 9000 yen.

I think the Hand and Lips were exclusives, about 50 each might be pretty close. Everyone and their grandma is ordering the new ones now thinking they will go up but luckily it doesnt seem to be the case. :D

I'm just glad the new ones are easy to get because they have been the ones I want...I actually don't like the hand, eye, and mouth demons...it's pretty sad if you're buying these for monetary reasons as they deserve to be in collections where they are loved...(awww!)

I LOVE the mushroom, octopus and thorn...and, like I said before can't wait for the squid...so flood the market...makes it easier and cheaper to get some really cool toys...
