 Pokemon vinyl
This is one of my son's toys that he actually actively plays with, purchased at a local comic store. It is vinyl and has a nice feel. Its about 4 inches tall. Its arms, legs and neck all turn. Under $10. Made in Japan by the Japanese pokemon company. It is actually 2 characters, one that is on the pink guy's head biting him, and the main one below that.
I can't stop handling it.
This is how all vinyl toys could be if they were super mass produced.
Any comments? Anyone know the background on pokemon vinyl figures?
Thanks.

I was sort of vaguely aware of pokemon when it broke because usenet was full of scammers all trying to trade out parts of the roms. Kids were already too old...now I see these figures as kind of charming and certainly well done if that piece is a good indication of general quality.
There were a lot of monsters; how many were made into figures?
Anyone?

hey, waddaya know. I just happen to work for them as a graphic designer....and I have slowking on my desk!
Believe it or not, we were working with Toy2R to get some 10" vinyl made -- the guy who's the head of the US office (japanese dude) didn't think there was a market for that and nixed the idea.

I really like some of the mainstream kids' vinyl toys these days. There are some recent Dragon Quest vinyls that are pretty cool (go over to yesasia.com and search for "Dragon Quest vinyl" to see them).
There's also a relatively new show called Dino Hunter or something like that, where the characters have little cutesy-style dinosaurs that turn into realistically-styled dinos. There are vinyls of all of them, they're pretty cool.

I've got a bunch o these. They're about 4"-5" tall. Some paints apps are quite decent actually. Bought them some years ago for my son who never played with them. He was more interested in the game cards. I'll dig em out and shoot pics.

I have a couple of Pokemon toys I got a log time ago, from a specialty shop. This was before the cartoon was shown in America. The tags are in Japanese, but the figures were made in China. They are decent size, too - about the height of a fight figure. I also bought a lot of Tomy Polemon models- easy to snap together and they all have wind-up action.

Tomy is the main company for Pokemon, and there currently 493 pokemon, not sure if they all have been made in Vinyl, seems that is reserved for fan favorites, but they've been made all in the small plastic sets.

 Re: Pokemon vinyl
I used to have a ton of little pokemon, maybe 3" or so. they would come with a pokeball with a trigger on the inside that would make it snap shut when one of the pokemon set off the trigger. I think it was something like this: pokemon are definitely my favorite mass-produced vinyl figures.
