Never! But if it moves him that much... haha to each his own (maybe if it was made with real booska costume pieces from the original show....)

I dunno. One-off airbrushed figures often sell for more than that at retail. Also it looks like a ton of work goes into making one of those Booskas. I'm not going for one, but relatively speaking for an indie toy the price isn't too insane.

Just want to say it's ridiculous that the Dream Rocket figures don't get the attention that others do. His sculpts and paint are terrific - and the SF figures were only 7,000 yen! I know there's very much a randomizer/hype generator effect at play when it comes to who is and isn't popular at the time. Just a shame that DR hasn't had his time in the sun. Dude deserves more props.

Re: Superfestival 69
You are right Andy, Dream Rocket does not get enough attention.
I love their kaijin designs, but I don't own any. Why ? Because of the pose. I don't like the dynamic pose they have. They look more like resin kits or action figures than sofubi toys. I prefer when they are more rigid looking, classical in a way.
I almost bought the Blobpus versions when he was offering them, as his painting really enlightened the sculpt, which is well balanced between a simple and effective design and an attention to detail.

I hear what you're saying. A more neutral pose would be a plus for many DR figures.

Re: Superfestival 69
That display cabinet is one of my favourite features from each SuperFest. And this Jack-themed one is as good as it gets. Such a lovely variety of things, from toys to models to costumes to books to full on props to misc. goods. I just love it all. The half-dome/helmet is my personal favourite. I like it ever better than just a simple Ultraman mask. Such great things, oh to be kid back in the 60s and 70s!

Re: Superfestival 69
It's in the hall where the talk shows and signings are held, so the trick is to get in there after all that ends to have a shot at looking at the cabinet and maybe snapping a pic or two.

Re: Superfestival 69
Ha! Yeah, that is exactly what I did too Andy, the one time I was able to go (it was a feature on Ultra-Q that year, since they were doing the big anniversary re-release of the series). Though there was also another of newer (with some vintage) stuff from the Zaborger zeries, as that film was also heavily being promoted at the event. Anyways, I am glad you made it in there to snap some - great! - photos. The sessions are interesting in and of themselves (for those who can understand Japanese of course) but it was tough work getting through the crowds to the display cases, and I know how difficult it can be to get good shots of stuff behind glass. Appreciate the effort and the share Andy.

Re: Superfestival 69
andy, great coverage as always. Thanks!! While that giant Gomora looks nice, you might as well save a little more and go for a vintage one for that price. Those Roughneck items are kinda funky.

The Booska was ¥46000. It's a handmade Teddy bear type doll. This first preorder was limited to 10.

Everything is handmade from scratch. The crown is resin, the eyes are pearlescent, and the mohair is imported from Germany. Even the stand it comes with is handmade by the toy maker. It has a very vintage appeal and feel to it. In my opinion it's price is well justified! Here is a photo collage I made (photos are not mine). Argh! Who am I kidding? I'd own it if I had the money and opportunity. Booska rocks.

Congrats Martin, that is a very good use of toy funds! Quite adorable! Thanks for posting those pics, it's great to see how they were birthed. Even the boxes are nice!
