It's gonna be a lottery, same as before. Shigeru will put up the info on his site when the time comes. I have nothing to do with the sales. (That was deliberate - I don't want the fallout when somebody doesn't get one!)

Why couldn't a run be done just for the board?

I think it's because Shigeru gets bored painting more than 10 at a time. His paints look pretty crazy though, I don't blame him. Anyway I'd like one even if it was unpainted without hair. It would be cool, if he took a Skullbrain order and offered a bigger unpainted run that we'd all be able to get.

He could mix 'em up! Paint variations, hairless or hirsute, etc.... people will eat them up, no matter what.
Though I definitely wouldn't turn down an unpainted either....

Because the hype might shrivel up and die . . . and the world needs all the hype it can get . . .

I don't get all the scorn heaped on NagNagNag for the small runs - yeah, they are difficult to obtain, but isn't that the whole point of collecting?

Shigeru is a one-man operation, doing something for love. I've crunched the numbers myself, and he ain't getting rich doing this. I'd imagine the primary reason that he doesn't do larger runs because the upfront manufacturing cost is prohibitive, and not so he can "screw" all you skullbrainers. Sure, now you all say you'll buy one, but what happens when he is stuck with a big run of vinyls after some tastemaker on the board turns up his nose at it?

Personally, I can't understand buying 20+ versions of the exact same fight figure - that seems like a much more obvious example of a coldly-calculated plot to separate obsessive collectors from their hard-earned dough than anything Shigeru is doing. But as long as you guys slobber breathlessly over the next release of Malibu Stacy, er, I mean Chaohead-mutantface-whatever, ("Yeah, but this one has a HAT!") you get what you deserve.

Would there be more than 50 people on this board that would want one?

Is that too many for Nag? ( I have no idea of his run sizes...)

There have been similar offers in the past on skullbrain, where board members posted to a numbered list thread and then had to paypal shortly thereafter. I haven't seen one of these in awhile but we did have them, once upon a time.

I think most people on this board, operate pretty independently of any tastemakers. People tend to buy what they're into. Plenty of people have snubbed this figure in this thread, but there's still a high demand.
If he did a pre-order with a deposit, he wouldn't be stuck with any left overs and would have manufacturing costs taken care of.

As a huge RxH fan, I'ma take the bait. Ignoring the fact that I genuinely like sculpts like Chaos enough to want to own many, many different versions because of all the great different paint jobs they've done, I like to support Mori because we know he does it out of passion, and every time he's featured in an interview, or someone like Matt Doughty of Onell goes to work with him, all we see is a man who does indeed make toys because he fucking LOVES it, and that appreciation shows through in his product. The NagNag dude is still really an unknown quantity to all but a few 'ruling elite', so all us plebes have to go off of is the attitude shown through the toys, and that attitude sucks. The super-secret debut and the whole faux-fight with Mishka or whatever reeks solely of sales generation, not any love of the toys or appreciation of the heritage. If he does something that demonstrates he actually appreciates Japanese vinyl or the buyers, instead of just floating his toy on hype, then we could talk.

I don't like the figure, especially after the 2-face and the hair, because it's more horror-themed than I like, and frankly the colorways have mostly been far too gross for anything I'd want to own or play with.

Hey, I said "personally"! One man's meat, another man's poison, etc.

I think the RxH stuff looks cool, I'm sure it's nicely made, I'll probably buy one eventually, but i've never been one to go crazy with completing a set of colorways, anyway. I was just making the point that seen from the outside, it looks like a lot of hype and market-manipulation, too.

And as far as this is concerned:

Quote:
If he does something that demonstrates he actually appreciates Japanese vinyl or the buyers, instead of just floating his toy on hype, then we could talk.

Sorry, but that just sounds like classic punk rock scenester BS to me - "his stuff sucks because he doesn't hang out with the right people, etc."

So if he proves himself to you, and shows you his heart is pure, then you'll like his toy that you don't like at the moment?

I think it's pretty obvious Shig loves these dumb toys - otherwise, why go to the trouble of making them? All his "hype" ain't making him rich, as discussed previously. Anybody who is doing this for such a miniscule market is doing it for love - there can be no other explanation. Further, his quality is top-notch - good thick vinyl, and clearly insane paintjobs- even if they are not to your taste, the amount of work is obvious. Seen in person, the quality is there.

On a personal level, he has been really easy to deal with, even with the translation barrier.

HAHA. Nailed that one on the head.

Frealz though, I'd pre-pay to get a SB version one of these dudes.

So COOP, how can I buy one of these? Are they sold-out already? Can I buy one from you? I don't suppose this is going to be a lottery sale...

Just judging from past experience, if there were an SB version offered, it would quickly become the least desirable and they would all flood the BST in a matter of weeks for less than retail.

That's not always the case.

Does someone have a big pile of Lamour Supreme x Real x Head sets, complete with plexi glass art, they'd sell for below retail?

Everyone wants to be able to pre-order it so everyone gets one and 900 photos of the same figure get posted in the "What you got in the mail" thread.

Seriously, a lot of toys are more "shopping experiences" than collecting now. People are used to this whole pre-order, buy it on the BST a week later when someone is bored with it attitude.

If you're a RxH fan, you really can't complain about micro runs because a lot of the older figures were made in really small quantities. A lot of toys were released at small shops in runs of 10 or less.
As far as Nag goes, the toy creeps me out and I don't like it. I think a lot of it at the beginning was hype, because every company that makes toys creates hype on some way (how else do you create demand for your supply?). And nobody would make a toy if they didn't have a passion for it, why would you bother if you didn't care?

TOY NERD DRAMA!!!
Like it or hate it- I think you have to give Shigeru and NagNagNag credit for stirring up so much emotion. For really polarizing the board like this...
I'd love to score a SB version of this guy, especially a saimese version, if that ever happened. Do I think it will? Nope.
Clearly Shig is selling as many toys as he wants, or can make, on his own. Why make an effort to make concessions to us after so many of us have shit all over his toy, practices and motives?

Wait- RxH makes a toy with a hat? I gots to find that...

It's funny that you call me on that, as the whole punk-attitude mystifies me as well, because at the end of the day we're still dorks buying toys, but I can see how that came off... I wouldn't start liking the toy if I thought his attitude was better, but with the way it seems he does business right now, I'd likely not put too much thought into buying anything he offered in the future, even if I was more favorable towards the toy.

As for being able to preorder toys through retailers, as opposed to hunting for it, there's no doubt that doing the legwork to track down an elusive piece adds to its sentimental value. At the same time, not every single pick-up needs to be a fucking chore... aside from the weenies that do indeed behave exactly how Ed describes, I don't see how being able to preorder and 'shop' for some toys hurts anybody.
