There will be some planned downtime starting Wednesday, June 15th at 9am EDT. The board will be closed for approximately 12 to 24 hours while we work on migrating to a new forum software. For more information on the move, check out the Board Change Announcements thread.

Re: Butanohana Database- a visual guide
^^ That was one of the 4 'new' releases from Buta's shop last year. I think he painted up an unused run of the cream and green vinyl dinos from 2007, but haven't been able to verify.
Ha! I knew our resident Butaru (that's Buta guru slang ) would come through! I really love that color, it looks like something that might have been a 50's color palette. Hopefully more of those will escape into the wild! Thank you Deevis!
Daniel, it's probably because we haven't eaten enough sugar (or else we know in JP, it's time to put up toys for sale )

All of these dino colorways (and Kong) are stunners. Especially lipstick Carnotaurus.
It took me a while to appreciate the dinos but they have a real understated elegance as compared to a lot of Buta's licensed fare (or are the dinos licensed as well?) Little gems in the hand to be sure.
Thanks for all the database diligence and good info folks!
this is in need of a good bump, in light of all the new Butas that were released.
I have a question about Garamon (just saw David's blue piggy with the omega symbol). I just know it's a dumb question, but I'll ask anyway... What does the omega symbol signify, and what's the difference between a Garamon with or without an Omega symbol? Is it like a Dr. Seuss Sneetches critter scenario?

Re: Butanohana Database- a visual guide
As for meaning, I don't know that one was intended or implied, but if you see a Gary without a symbol on his chest, he hails from episode 13 of Ultra Q. If he's got an Omega or an Anchor sign on him, he's one of the "brothers" from episode 16.
I can dig out or take some screen caps for you if you like, but I'm feeling lazy at the moment.
So then it's a Kaiju statusy symbol type thing, and not a super duper power type thing? How do they get the Anchor/Omega sign, do they have to walk into a sneech box or something?
P.S. So now what's the difference between an Anchor and an Omega??? (Thanks for the previous answer, I hadn't realized it was related to an episode!)
P.P.S. So do Gary's reproduce by spontaneous generation--i.e. self division, budding, etc??? You mentioned brothers, so I read that as the Gary in ep. 13 is a parent creature? Who knew Kaiju toys could be so complex

^ The episodes were a wee light on info of that sort, but I look forward to your erotic fan fiction to flesh out those details for us!
Here's some Gara teets to get you started:
The 'brothers' comment was a misnomer - in ep.13, the invading forces sent one giant robot to conquer us; in ep.16, two.

Re: Butanohana Database- a visual guide
As long as this thread is seeing some action tonight, I might as well mention that I finally got around to building and posting the bare bones of the paper trail section for the DB: http://67.23.33.184/bb/viewtopic.php?p= ... 85#p787184 There's quite a bit more digitizing and annotation to get to... Expect results before election day 2016.
I also put together a related little something that I've been meaning to get to - character IDs for the Tsuburaya header cards. I was considering making a new thread for similar such miscellany, as was suggested when I was posting those Chibira-Kun reports, but I suppose this very rectangle will do for now:
Gamakujira ガマクジラ (Ultraman, ep.14)
Jirass ジラース (Ultraman, ep.10)
Goldon ゴルドン (Ultraman, ep.29)
Garamon Anchor ガラモン 碇 (Ultra Q, ep.16)
Gyango ギャンゴ (Ultraman, ep.11)
Kanegon カネゴン (Ultra Q, ep.15)
Alien Zarab ザラブ星人 (Ultraman, ep.18,33)
King Maimai (larvae) キングマイマイ(幼虫) (Return of Ultraman, ep.32)
Excellent work and great job on keeping the database up to date to both Chris and David.

Re: Butanohana Database- a visual guide
Thanks, fellas! I was just going to chime in that it looks like Chris has put in plenty of time updating the front end: page 1 seems up to date other than stuff like the micros, the Gargamel collabs and a few stray toys that I'll PM him about.
I tweeked page 7 a bit more. A hobbyist's work is never done! (rolling my eyes at myself.)
Still looking for some feedback about what to do with some of the miscellany. Also, if anyone has any additional packaging or paper matter that they wouldn't mind scanning, please contact me!
